Relative Stability Among Levant Banks in «First Bank» Largest Arab Banks Ranking Over the Past Two Years

«First Bank» Top 100 Arab Banks ranking at the end of 2025 showed that Levant banks demonstrated a moderate level of stability, recording a Stability Index of 56% compared with 2024. This indicates that changes in the rankings of these banks were relatively limited.

First Bank introduced the Stability Index to measure banks' movements within the ranking based on four main categories:

Full Stability: Banks that maintained the same ranking position.

Relative Stability: Banks that moved between one and three positions.

Moderate Movement: Banks that shifted between four and ten positions.

Major Movement: Banks whose ranking changed by more than ten positions, reflecting significant shifts within the ranking.

Among the 14 Levant banks included in the ranking between 2024 and 2025, Bank al Etihad (Jordan) recorded the strongest improvement, climbing 15 places to rank 53rd at the end of 2025, compared with 68th in 2024. The bank is now on the verge of joining the Top 50 Arab Banks, placing it within the Major Movement category.

The improvement was supported by a 49.2% increase in total assets during 2025, with assets rising to US$17.57 billion at the end of December 2025, compared with US$11.78 billion a year earlier.

Moderate Movement Category

Five banks fell into the Moderate Movement category.

Safwa Islamic Bank (Jordan) advanced eight positions to rank 82nd, up from 90th in 2024, after its assets increased to US$6.05 billion, compared with US$4.99 billion, representing annual growth of 21%.

National Bank of Iraq climbed seven places to 92nd, compared with 99th in 2024, following a 26.6% year-on-year increase in assets to US$4.97 billion, up from US$3.93 billion.

Bank of Palestine moved up five positions to rank 72nd, compared with 77th in 2024. Its assets grew by 27.4% year-on-year to US$10.65 billion, compared with US$8.36 billion.

Arab Islamic International Bank (Jordan) advanced four places to 84th, up from 88th in 2024, after recording 13.3% annual asset growth, with assets reaching US$5.92 billion, compared with US$5.22 billion.

In contrast, Bank Audi fell eight positions to 62nd, down from 54th in 2024, as its assets declined by 9.9% year-on-year to US$14.78 billion, compared with US$16.41 billion.

Relative Stability Category

Seven banks were classified under the Relative Stability category.

Jordan Islamic Bank climbed three places to rank 73rd, compared with 76th in 2024, supported by 10.8% growth in total assets, which reached US$9.57 billion, up from US$8.64 billion.

Cairo Amman Bank (Jordan) advanced two positions to 85th, compared with 87th in 2024. Its total assets increased to US$5.79 billion, up from US$5.53 billion, reflecting annual growth of 4.8%.

Capital Bank of Jordan moved up one place to rank 68th, compared with 69th in 2024, after its assets increased by 5.9% year-on-year to US$12.31 billion, from US$11.62 billion.

Jordan Ahli Bank also advanced one position, ranking 90th in 2025, compared with 91st in 2024, as its assets grew by 5.6% to US$5.25 billion, up from US$4.97 billion.

Bank of Jordan climbed one place to 95th, compared with 96th in 2024, following a modest 3.3% increase in assets to US$4.60 billion, compared with US$4.45 billion.

Meanwhile, Arab Bank (Jordan) slipped one position to 18th, compared with 17th in 2024, despite reporting 9.8% annual growth in assets, which reached US$78.19 billion, compared with US$71.23 billion.

Similarly, Housing Bank for Trade and Finance (Jordan) fell one place to 65th, compared with 64th in 2024. The bank recorded a marginal 1.8% increase in assets to US$13.25 billion, compared with US$13.01 billion, placing it within the same category.

Full Stability Category

Only one bank achieved Full Stability.

Jordan Kuwait Bank maintained its 78th position in both 2024 and 2025, despite a 3% year-on-year decline in assets to US$7.70 billion, compared with US$7.94 billion at the end of 2024.
