First Bank’s ranking of the fastest-growing foreign banks operating in Egypt in terms of personal loans over the past five years (from year-end 2020 to year-end 2025) revealed that Al Baraka Bank Egypt topped the list with a compound annual growth rate of 61.45%, as its personal loan portfolio increased to EGP 17.557 billion in 2025, compared with EGP 16.00 billion in 2020.

«Kuwait Finance House – Egypt» ranked second, recording a CAGR of 56.71% over the past 5 years, with its personal loan portfolio rising to 7.97 EGP bn in 2025, compared with 843.02 EGP mn in 2020.

Meanwhile, «Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt» secured third place with a CAGR of 27.36%, as its personal loan portfolio expanded to 25.06 EGP bn in 2025, compared with 7.48 EGP bn in 2020.

The First Bank analysis tracked the development of personal loan portfolios across 10 foreign banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available. The findings showed that all banks achieved positive average growth rates over the past 5 years.

At the level of Gulf-owned banks, the data showed their strong presence within the ranking, securing four of the top five positions. «Al Baraka Egypt» ranked first, followed by «Kuwait Finance House – Egypt» in second place, «Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt» in third, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Egypt «ADIB» in fourth place.

The ranking also revealed that listed banks accounted for three positions among the top five performers, namely Al Baraka Bank Egypt, Kuwait Finance House – Egypt, and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Egypt, out of a total of six listed banks included in the analysis.

Among Islamic banks, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Egypt was the only Islamic bank to secure a position within the top five, out of three Islamic banks included in the ranking.

The analysis highlighted the remarkable growth achieved by foreign banks in the personal lending segment, with the combined personal loan portfolio reaching EGP 252.20 EGP bn by the end of 2025, representing a growth of 157.99% over the past 5 years, reflecting the sector’s strong expansion in retail banking activities.
