Strong Balance Sheet Expansion Propels Suez Canal Bank to the Top of Egypt’s Fastest-Growing Banks by Assets Over the Last 3 Years
The top 10 banks were the only ones to surpass the sector’s average growth rate of 28.38% over the last 3 years
Foreign banks shine, securing 4 spots among the 10 fastest-growing banks in assets out of 13 foreign banks included in the ranking
Islamic banks secure a single spot among the top 10, out of 4 Islamic banks included in the ranking
The «First Bank» ranking of the fastest-growing banks operating in Egypt by assets over the last 3 years revealed that «Suez Canal Bank» topped the list, recording a compound annual growth rate of 53.51% over the last 3 years. Its total assets reached EGP 270.12 bn at the end of 2025, compared with EGP 74.67 bn at the end of 2022.
«Arab International Bank» came in second, with its total assets growing at a compound annual growth rate of 51.07% over the last 3 years, reaching EGP 365.11 bn at the end of last year, compared with EGP 105.9 bn at the end of 2022.
«Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt» «ADIB – Egypt» secured third place, recording a compound annual growth rate of 43.89% over the last 3 years. Its total assets reached EGP 344.15 bn at the end of last December, compared with EGP 115.52 bn at the end of 2022.
The «First Bank» ranking tracked the development of the asset portfolios of 27 banks operating within the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data was available. The results showed that all banks recorded positive growth rates over the last 3 years.
At the sector level, the data showed that 10 banks in the ranking achieved asset portfolio growth rates exceeding the sector’s average compound annual growth rate of 28.38%, according to Central Bank of Egypt data. Meanwhile, 17 banks recorded growth rates below this average over the last 3 years.
Regarding the foreign banks included in the ranking, 4 secured spots among the 10 fastest-growing banks in assets over the last 3 years: «Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank», «Attijariwafa bank», «Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait», and «National Bank of Kuwait».
Meanwhile, Islamic banks secured a single spot among the 10 fastest-growing banks in assets over the last 3 years, namely «Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank», which ranked third.
It is worth noting that all values and growth rates mentioned in the above analysis are based on the standalone financial statements disclosed by each bank as of the end of 2025.
