First Bank’s ranking of the top 100 Arab banks at end-June 2026 revealed that 27 banks maintained their positions compared to end-2025, while the remaining banks recorded varying upward and downward movements during H1 2026.

This stability was not evenly distributed across the ranking, but was notably concentrated among higher-ranked banks. A total of 21 banks maintained their positions within the top 50 Arab banks, accounting for approximately 77 per cent of all banks whose rankings remained unchanged.

12 banks maintain their positions among the top 20 Arab banks

The stability pattern becomes more significant when examining the top 20, where 12 banks retained their positions. These included Al Rajhi Bank in fifth place, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) in sixth, National Bank of Egypt (NBE) in seventh, and National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) in eighth.

The group also included Saudi Awwal Bank (SAB), Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), Mashreq Bank, Banque Misr, Attijariwafa Bank, Alinma Bank, Banque Saudi Fransi (BSF), and Arab National Bank (anb), highlighting a high degree of stability among the leading institutions.

Stability extends to the mid-tier segment

Stability also extended to nine other banks ranked between 21st and 50th, including Dukhan Bank, Boubyan Bank, Burgan Bank, National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah (RAKBANK), Sharjah Islamic Bank, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait (ABK), Al Salam Bank, Arab African International Bank (AAIB), and Warba Bank.

Accordingly, banks in the top half of the ranking accounted for 21 of the 27 banks that maintained their positions, while only six banks in the bottom half recorded no change in their rankings.

The six banks that retained their positions in the bottom half were spread across ranks 56 to 98: Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB), Capital Bank, Jordan Islamic Bank, Ithmaar Bank, Bank of Jordan, and EBank.

The ranking data indicate that stability was not limited to the largest banks, although it remained more concentrated among institutions occupying leading positions.

The findings also show that unchanged rankings were more evident in the upper segment of the list, where most major banks retained their positions despite differences in asset sizes and growth rates. Meanwhile, the remaining ranks offered greater scope for changes in the relative positions of banks.
