A high-level delegation, led by the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of South Sudan, visited the Central Bank of Egypt from July 30 to August 3, 2023. This visit was in accordance with a memorandum of understanding signed between the two banks in 2021.

Hassan Abdallah, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, warmly welcomed the delegation, which included experts from the World Bank. He emphasized the complete readiness to enhance supervisory and banking capacities for South Sudan.

The Egyptian side aims to share experiences in various fields, including bank supervision, risk management, payment systems, financial inclusion, banking legislation, anti-money laundering, and counter-terrorism financing.

During their visit, the delegation toured numerous institutions and relevant entities within the banking sector. They engaged with the Egyptian Banking Institute to explore cooperation in training, capacity development, and the qualification of banking personnel in South Sudan.

The delegation also visited the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing department, where they were received by the President of the Board of Trustees. The President expressed willingness to provide necessary expertise within the framework of cooperation and coordination with neighboring countries.

The delegation's itinerary further included visits to both Banque Misr for technological advancements and the Egyptian Credit Information Company (I-SCORE) to understand the operational systems of both entities.

At the Smart Village headquarters, the delegation was received by the President of the Authority, who explained its crucial role in overseeing the non-banking financial sector. He welcomed the reinforcement of collaboration mechanisms and the transfer of essential knowledge to colleagues in South Sudan.
