William Henry Gates III, known as Bill Gates, was born on 28 October 1955, Seattle, from an upper-middle class family of Scottish-Irish origin.

Gates graduated from Lakeside School in 1973, attended Harvard in the fall of 1973, and initially planned to study law and work as a lawyer, but spent a lot of his time on computers, and also kept in touch with his friend Paul Allen, who together founded the world's largest software company, Microsoft, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1975.

Bill Gates made a deal in 1980 with ABM, where Microsoft introduced the MSD-OH OS operating system for new personal EPM devices.

Gates sold the software to ABM for a fee of $ 50 thousand, but retained the software's publishing rights. When the computer market took off, Microsoft also sold "MS-D-OHs" to other PC manufacturers, and Microsoft quickly became the certified operating system in a large proportion of computers around the world.

Bill Gates became one of the richest men in the world with a net worth of $ 153 billion, founded the Bill and Malinda Gates Charitable Foundation in 2000 with a spending volume of up to $4 billion a year, to help the poor, fight deadly diseases in underdeveloped countries, and offer scholarships to students

Gates led Microsoft as chairman and CEO until he stepped down as CEO in January 2000, succeeded by Steve Palmer, but remained chairman of the board and became chief software engineer

During the late 1990s, he was criticized for his business tactics, which were considered anti-competitive, and this view was met with support through several court rulings

In June 2008, Gates moved to a part-time job at Microsoft, working full-time at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a private charity founded by him and his then wife, Melinda Gates, in 2000.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, and Warren Buffett, an American businessman, also signed a memorandum in 2010 stipulating that half of their wealth be donated to charity.

Gates stepped down as Chairman of Microsoft's Board of Directors in February 2014 and took on a new position as Technical Advisor to support newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadala

He also left his board positions at Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway in March 2020 to focus on his philanthropic efforts, including climate change, global health, development and education.
