ADIB-Egypt, NBK-Egypt and Credit Agricole top fastest growing private sector banks in mortgage loans in last 3 years

First Bank list of the fastest private sector banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector in terms of growth in real estate loans in the last 3 years revealed that Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank-Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» topped the list, as its portfolio of real estate financing jumped by about 1536.2% during the last 3 years, reaching EGP 599.72 million at the end of 2024, compared to EGP 36.65 million at the end of 2021.
First Bank list monitored the total real estate loan portfolio of 15 private banks operating in the Egyptian banking system for which financial statements were available for the last 3 years (specifically from the end of 2021 until the end of 2024), based on the independent financial statements announced for each bank.
The list showed that 12 banks achieved positive growth rates, while 3 banks achieved a significant decline in their mortgage portfolio.
It is worth noting that First Abu Dhabi Bank - Egypt «FABMISR» achieved a growth rate of 218.7% in the last 3 years as a result of the acquisition process that took place and was excluded from the classification for accuracy of comparison.
Returning to the list, the National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt «NBK – Egypt« took second place, as its real estate loan portfolio increased by about 623.5%, reaching 1.78 billion pounds by the end of 2024, compared to 245.37 million pounds by the end of 2021.
Credit Agricole Bank-Egypt ranked third, as its real estate loan portfolio increased by about 533.5% in the last 3 years, reaching 1.48 billion pounds by the end of 2024, compared to 233.57 million pounds by the end of 2021.
Bank Next «BANK NXT» dominated fourth place with a growth rate of 314.8% over the last 3 years, thanks to the increase in the size of its real estate loan portfolio to 1.80 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 434.97 million pounds at the end of 2021.
Qatar National Bank «QNB» Egypt won fifth place, after its real estate loan portfolio rose by about 195.1% in the last 3 years, reaching 8.40 billion pounds by the end of 2024, compared to 2.85 billion pounds by the end of 2021.
Faisal Islamic Bank came sixth, as its portfolio of real estate financing jumped by about 173.4% during the last 3 years, reaching 2.38 billion pounds by the end of 2024, compared to 871.53 million pounds by the end of 2021.
The Arab African International Bank came in seventh place, after the size of its real estate loan portfolio increased by about 166.4% in the last 3 years, recording 2.79 billion pounds by the end of 2024, compared to 1.05 billion pounds by the end of 2021.
The Commercial International Bank-Egypt «CIB« snatched eighth place, thanks to the rise of its real estate loan portfolio by about 133.3% during the last 3 years, reaching 5.77 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 2.47 billion pounds at the end of 2021.
Arab International Banking Corporation «SAIB« came in ninth place, after its real estate loan portfolio jumped by about 74.5% over the past 3 years, to record EGP 1.65 billion at the end of 2024, compared to EGP 946.89 million at the end of 2021.
The tenth place went to the Egyptian Gulf Bank «EGBANK«, whose real estate loan portfolio jumped by about 61% in the last 3 years, reaching about EGP 516 million by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 320.56 million by the end of 2021.
It is worth noting that private sector banks are banks whose total shareholding exceeds 50%, according to data from the Egyptian Ministry of Public Business Sector.
