AL Baraka, HSBC, and ABK-Egypt: Fastest-Growing Foreign Banks in terms of Retail Loans in the last 3 years

AL Baraka topped the list of the fastest-growing foreign banks in Egypt in terms of retail loans over the past 3 years, with an average growth rate of 405%.
HSBC came second with 182.9%, followed by ABK-Egypt in third place with 149.2%. ADIB-Egypt and NBK-Egypt secured the fourth and fifth spots with average growth rates of 112% and 100.6%, respectively.
According to First Bank's list of the fastest-growing foreign banks in Egypt based on retail loans over the past 3 years (2022–2024), AL Baraka ranked first with an average growth of 405%, recording EGP 12.53 billion in 2024, up from EGP 2.48 billion in 2021
The ranking includes 11 foreign banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector, for which financial data was available for the three years. All of them achieved positive growth in retail finance.
Notably, ABC and FABMISR achieved 114.4% and 77.8% with growth rate over the last 3 years after undergoing acquisitions during this period, they were excluded to maintain the accuracy of comparison.
HSBC came second with an average growth rate of 182.9%, reaching EGP 16.31 billion in 2024, up from EGP 5.76 billion in 2021.
ABK-Egypt ranked third with an average growth rate of 149.2%, recording EGP 22.90 billion in 2024, compared to EGP 9.19 billion in 2021.
ADIB-Egypt followed in fourth place with an average growth rate of 112%, as retail loans rose to EGP 27.66 billion in 2024, from EGP 13.05 billion in 2021.
NBK-Egypt came fifth, averaging 100.6% growth, with retail loans reaching EGP 17.71 billion in 2024, compared to EGP 8.83 billion in 2021.
Kuwait Finance House-Egypt ranked sixth with an average retail loans growth rate of 96.7% over the past three years, reaching EGP 4.95 billion in 2024, up from EGP 2.52 billion in 2021.
Attijariwafa followed in seventh place, with an average growth rate of 93.4%, as retail loans rose to EGP 10.89 billion in 2024, compared to EGP 5.63 billion in 2021.
QNB-Egypt came in eighth, recording an 82.9% growth rate, with retail loans reaching EGP 66.39 billion in 2024, versus EGP 36.30 billion in 2021.
In ninth place Emirates NDB–Egypt reported 51.7% average growth rate, which retail loans increasing to EGP 16.90 billion in 2024, up from EGP 11.14 billion in 2021.
ADCB secured the tenth spot, with an average growth rate of 51.5%, rising to EGP 11.19 billion in 2024, compared to EGP 7.39 billion in 2021.
