FABMISR Tops the List of Foreign Banks with a Direct loans Portfolio Expansion of EGP 59.18 billion; QNB-Egypt Secures Second Place with EGP 51.64 billion

NBK-Egypt ranked third with an increase of EGP 47.02 billion, while ADIB-Egypt and KHF-Egypt claimed the fourth and fifth spots, with increases of EGP 31.81 billion and EGP 27.87 billion, respectively.

First Bank’s index of foreign banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector revealed that First Abu Dhabi Bank-Egypt «FABMISR» topped the ranking of the biggest expansion in direct loans over the past three years, with its total direct loans rising by EGP 59.18 billion. The bank’s direct loans portfolio grew to EGP 63.59 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 4.41 billion at the end of 2021.

The index tracked increases in the total direct loans portfolios of 12 foreign banks operating in the Egyptian market, for which financial data was available over the past three years (from year-end 2021 to year-end 2024).

Results showed that all banks under review recorded notable increases in their total direct loans during this period. It is worth noting that both ABC and FABMISR underwent acquisitions, which affected the magnitude of their growth.

Returning to the ranking, Qatar National Bank – Egypt «QNB-Egypt» secured second place, with its direct loans growing by EGP 51.64 billion over the past three years, reaching EGP 108.96 billion at the end of 2024, compared to EGP 57.32 billion at the end of 2021.

National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt «NBK-Egypt» came third, with a direct loans increase of EGP 47.02 billion, bringing its portfolio to EGP 76.17 billion at the end of 2024, up from EGP 29.14 billion at the end of 2021.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» ranked fourth, as its direct loans portfolio rose by EGP 31.81 billion to EGP 59.54 billion by year-end 2024, compared to EGP 27.73 billion in 2021.

Finally, Kuwait Housing Finance-Egypt «KHF-Egypt» claimed the fifth spot with an increase of EGP 27.87 billion, with total direct loans reaching EGP 55.51 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 27.63 billion in 2021.
