«NBE», «SC Bank», and «BANK NXT» Lead the Fastest-Growing Banks in Corporate Lending Over the Past Three Years
«NBE» topped the list, achieving the highest growth rate, the largest absolute increase, and the largest portfolio size.
Private-sector dominance continues, with eight private banks ranking among the top ten fastest-growing banks, compared with two public-sector banks.
Arab banking groups captured four positions among the top ten fastest-growing banks in corporate lending over the past three years.
Faisal Islamic Bank recorded the slowest growth in its corporate lending portfolio over the past three years, reflecting limited corporate credit expansion.
The First Bank ranking of the fastest-growing banks in corporate lending, including small loans for economic activities, over the past three years revealed that the National Bank of Egypt «NBE» ranked first, recording a compound annual growth rate of 52.5%. The bank also posted the largest absolute increase and the highest corporate lending portfolio among Egyptian banks, with its portfolio rising to EGP 3.59 trillion by the end of 2024, compared with EGP 1.01 trillion at the end of 2021, representing a total increase of EGP 2.58 trillion.
Suez Canal Bank «SC Bank» ranked second with a growth rate of 45.6%, while BANK NXT came in third with a growth rate of 43.5% over the same period.
The ranking covered 26 banks operating within the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available over the past three years. It is worth noting that ABC and FABMISR recorded growth rates of 95.2% and 94.1%, respectively, over the past three years due to acquisition transactions, and were therefore excluded from the ranking to ensure accuracy and comparability.
The ranking highlighted the outperformance of private-sector banks, which secured eight out of the top ten positions among the fastest-growing banks in corporate lending over the past three years, compared with only two positions for public-sector banks.
The private banks included among the top ten fastest-growing banks in corporate lending during the period under review were Suez Canal Bank, BANK NXT, «ADCB-Egypt», «NBK-Egypt», Attijariwafa Bank Egypt, «ABK-Egypt», «CIB», and« AIB», while the two public-sector positions were held by the «NBE» and «HD Bank».
The data also showed strong performance by Arab banking groups operating in Egypt, which captured four positions among the top ten fastest-growing banks in corporate lending over the past three years, namely «ADCB-Egypt», «NBK-Egypt», Attijariwafa Bank Egypt, and «ABK-Egypt», while other banks were absent from the top ten.
By contrast, Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt recorded the weakest growth in its corporate lending portfolio over the past three years, with a modest growth rate of just 7.1%, clearly reflecting limited expansion in corporate credit and a reduced ability to compete in the market.
