Shareholders’ Equity Declines at One Bank During the First Nine Months
The First Bank ranking of the fastest-growing banks in shareholders’ equity during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that Housing and Development Bank topped the list, after its equity portfolio increased by 38.9%, reaching EGP 33.68 billion by the end of September 2025, compared to EGP 24.24 billion at the end of 2024.
Commercial International Bank–Egypt ranked second, with its shareholders’ equity rising by 36.4% during the first nine months of 2025, reaching EGP 206.85 billion by the end of September 2025, compared to EGP 151.69 billion at the end of 2024.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank–Egypt secured third place, as its shareholders’ equity increased by 36.3% during the first nine months of 2025, reaching EGP 30.50 billion by the end of September 2025, up from EGP 22.37 billion at the end of 2024.
The ranking highlighted the continued dominance of the private sector, as private banks captured 8 positions among the top 10 fastest-growing banks, including CIB, ADIB-Egypt, Suez Canal Bank, ADCB, EGBANK, BANK NXT, NBK-Egypt, and ABK-Egypt.
Meanwhile, state-owned banks secured two positions among the top 10, with Housing and Development Bank ranking first, while Banque du Caire placed tenth.
Banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange managed to capture half of the top 10 positions, represented by Housing and Development Bank, CIB, ADIB-Egypt, Suez Canal Bank, and EGBANK.
At the level of Gulf banking groups operating in Egypt, these institutions secured four positions among the top 10 fastest-growing banks, namely ADIB-Egypt, ADCB, NBK-Egypt, and ABK-Egypt.
In contrast, Islamic banks claimed only one position among the top 10 fastest-growing banks, with Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank–Egypt ranking third.
On the other hand, only one bank recorded a decline in shareholders’ equity during the first nine months of 2025. Arab International Banking Company »saib« saw its equity portfolio decline by 5.6%, reaching approximately EGP 18.61 billion by the end of September 2025, compared to EGP 19.72 billion at the end of 2024.
It is worth noting that all figures and growth rates cited in the above analysis are based on the standalone financial statements announced by each bank as of the end of September 2025.
