The First Bank list of banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector most focused on retail deposits at the end of September 2025 revealed that Faisal Islamic Bank topped the list with a concentration ratio of 97.02%. Its retail deposit portfolio recorded approximately 184.85 billion Egyptian pounds, while its total customer deposits reached 190.52 billion Egyptian pounds at the end of September 2025.
Bank of Alexandria secured the second position with a concentration ratio of 81.67%, as its retail deposit portfolio reached 141.61 billion Egyptian pounds, and total customer deposits stood at 173.40 billion Egyptian pounds at the end of September 2025.
Banque Misr ranked third with a concentration ratio of 70.48%, after its retail deposit portfolio reached about 2.04 trillion Egyptian pounds, while its total customer deposits recorded approximately 2.90 trillion Egyptian pounds at the end of September 2025.
The list monitors the trends of banks in forming their deposit portfolios across 27 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data was available for the period under analysis. Specifically, it looks at the diversity in offering certificates and products to attract more customers. The list relies on the retail deposits to total deposits ratio to provide an indicator of the extent to which a bank’s deposit portfolio is concentrated in retail deposits, according to the standalone financial statements announced by each bank.
The list revealed a clear balance between public and private sector banks within the top ten positions, as each sector claimed 5 seats. The list of public banks included Banque Misr, National Bank of Egypt, United Bank, Banque du Caire, and Housing and Development Bank.
Meanwhile, the private banks included Faisal Islamic Bank, Bank of Alexandria, Al Baraka Bank, CIB, and HSBC.
Foreign groups operating in the Egyptian banking sector captured 3 seats among the top ten, represented by Bank of Alexandria, Al Baraka Bank, and HSBC.
Islamic banks secured two spots among the 10 banks most focused on retail deposits, with Faisal Islamic Bank leading the list and Al Baraka Bank ranking fifth.
Regarding banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange, they captured 5 spots among the top 10 banks most focused on retail deposits, which are Faisal Islamic Bank, Al Baraka Bank, United Bank, CIB, and Housing and Development Bank.
