The «First Bank» ranking of the best banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector on the «First Bank» Credit Competitiveness Index during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) topped the list, after its total loan portfolio increased by EGP 583.47 billion, reaching EGP 4.53 trillion by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 3.95 trillion at the end of 2024.

Banque Misr secured the second place, as its customer loan portfolio rose by about EGP 168.17 billion during the first nine months of 2025, reaching EGP 1.49 trillion by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 1.32 trillion at the end of 2024.

The Commercial International Bank – Egypt «CIB» ranked third, recording an increase of EGP 101.91 billion during the first nine months of 2025, as its loan portfolio reached EGP 491.48 billion by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 389.57 billion at the end of 2024.

The «First Bank» Credit Competitiveness Index tracked the increase in total customer loan portfolios across 27 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector during the first nine months of 2025, with the data revealing that all banks covered by the index succeeded in expanding their loan portfolios.

The «First Bank» Credit Competitiveness Index measures the ability of banks operating in Egypt to offer credit and loan products capable of attracting both individual and corporate customers. The index relies on the absolute growth in total customer loans, which reflects how successful a bank has been in expanding its lending portfolio.

Data also showed that private sector banks captured 7 positions within the top 10, including: «CIB», «QNB» Egypt, «ADIB» Egypt, «FABMISR», Arab African International Bank, Suez Canal Bank, and «Emirates NBD» Egypt.

As for public sector banks, they secured 3 positions among the top 10, with the National Bank of Egypt ranking first, Banque Misr second, and Banque du Caire placing tenth.

Regarding Islamic banks, they captured one position within the top 10, represented by Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt «ADIB», which ranked fifth.

At the level of Gulf banking groups operating in Egypt, they secured 4 positions among the top 10, namely: «QNB» Egypt, «ADIB» Egypt, «FABMISR», and «Emirates NBD» Egypt.

Meanwhile, banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange captured 4 positions within the top 10, represented by «CIB», «QNB» Egypt, «ADIB» Egypt, and Suez Canal Bank.

It is worth noting that all figures and growth rates mentioned in the above analysis are based on the standalone financial statements announced by each bank as of the end of September 2025.
