24 Banks Operating in Egypt Included in «First Bank» List of the Largest 100 Arab Banks by Loan Portfolio
A recent ranking issued by «First Bank» of the largest 100 Arab banks by loan portfolio as of year-end 2025 revealed the presence of 24 banks operating in the Egyptian market, including 11 locally branded Egyptian banks and 13 subsidiaries of foreign banking groups operating in Egypt.
The ranking was based on banks’ disclosed loan portfolios denominated in US dollars, providing a unified comparison tool across financial institutions. Banks lacking official financial disclosures were excluded to ensure accuracy and reliability of the methodology.
Egyptian Banks in the Ranking
The National Bank of Egypt ranked 8th regionally and 1st locally, with a loan portfolio of approximately 94.10 USD bn by the end of 2025.
Banque Misr ranked 25th regionally and 2nd among Egyptian banks, with loans totaling around 29.71 USD bn.
«CIB» ranked 51st regionally and 3rd locally, with a loan portfolio of around 11.27 USD bn.
Arab African International Bank ranked 70th regionally and 5th among Egyptian banks, with loans of approximately 5.31 USD bn.
Banque du Caire ranked 71st regionally and 6th locally, with a loan portfolio of about 5.04 USD bn.
Suez Canal Bank ranked 87th regionally and 9th among Egyptian banks, with loans totaling 2.57 USD bn.
Export Development Bank of Egypt «EBank» ranked 96th regionally and 13th locally, with loans of 1.87 USD bn.
Bank of Alexandria ranked 97th regionally and 15th among Egyptian banks, with a loan portfolio of approximately 1.69 USD bn.
SAIB Bank ranked 98th regionally and 16th locally, with loans of around 1.59 USD bn.
«EGBANK» ranked 99th regionally and 21st among Egyptian banks, with a loan portfolio of approximately 1.27 USD bn.
Housing & Development Bank ranked 100th regionally and 22nd locally, with loans of around 1.26 USD bn.
Foreign Banking Groups Operating in Egypt
Qatar National Bank Group topped the ranking with a loan portfolio of 278.54 USD bn by the end of 2025, while its Egyptian subsidiary recorded approximately 9.24 USD bn, ranking 4th among the largest lenders in Egypt.
Emirates NBD Group ranked 4th regionally with 172.31 USD bn, while its Egypt operations recorded around 1.88 USD bn, placing 12th among the largest lenders in the Egyptian market.
First Abu Dhabi Bank Group ranked 2nd regionally with 228.92 USD bn, while its Egyptian subsidiary reported a deposit base of around 7.0 USD bn by the end of the same year.
First Abu Dhabi Bank Group also ranked 5th regionally in another classification with 167.81 USD bn, while its Egypt subsidiary recorded a loan portfolio of 3.86 USD bn, ranking 7th among the largest lenders in Egypt.
Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank ranked 6th regionally with 110.53 USD bn, while its Egypt subsidiary recorded approximately 1.41 USD bn, placing 18th among lenders in Egypt.
National Bank of Kuwait Group ranked 9th regionally with 87.09 USD bn, while its Egyptian arm recorded 2.54 USD bn, ranking 10th in the Egyptian market.
Kuwait Finance House Group ranked 12th regionally with 70.86 USD bn, while its Egypt operations recorded 2.03 USD bn, placing 11th locally.
Attijariwafa Bank Group ranked 16th regionally with 53.91 USD bn, while its Egypt subsidiary recorded 1.41 USD bn, ranking 17th among lenders in Egypt.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Group ranked 18th regionally with 51.36 USD bn, while its Egyptian arm recorded 3.09 USD bn, placing 8th locally.
ABC Group ranked 34th regionally with 20.66 USD bn, while its Egypt subsidiary recorded approximately USD 0.77 bn, ranking 25th in Egypt.
Al Baraka Group ranked 40th regionally with 15.56 USD bn, while its Egypt operations recorded 1.39 USD bn, placing 19th among lenders in Egypt.
Ahli United Bank Group ranked 42nd regionally with 14.83 USD bn, while its Egypt subsidiary recorded 1.77 USD bn, ranking 14th locally.
It is worth noting that Mashreq Bank and Arab Bank ranked 13th and 20th regionally, with loan portfolios of 62.64 USD bn and 37.48 USD bn respectively by the end of 2025; however, neither disclosed their Egypt-specific lending figures.
