Faisal Islamic Bank, ABK Egypt, and Kuwait Finance House Egypt Lead Profit Growth in Q1 2026
According to First Bank’s report tracking net profit developments among banks operating in Egypt’s banking sector during Q1 2026, Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt ranked first after achieving a strong growth rate of 232.5%. Its net profit rose to EGP 2.93 billion during the period, compared with EGP 881.64 million in the corresponding period of 2025. This significant growth enabled the bank to move to the top of the ranking after placing 24th among the fastest-growing banks in Q1 2025. Al Ahli Kuwaiti Bank – Egypt (ABK Egypt) secured second place with a growth rate of 100%, as its net profit reached EGP 2.49 billion in Q1 2026, compared with EGP 1.25 billion during the same period in 2025. Kuwait Finance House – Egypt ranked third, with net profits increasing by approximately 87.4% to EGP 1.76 billion in Q1 2026, compared with EGP 937.78 million during the corresponding period of 2025. The First Bank ranking monitored the net profits of 25 banks in the Egyptian banking system for which financial data were available. It found that 17 banks recorded positive growth rates, while 8 banks experienced noticeable declines during Q1 2026. At the sector level, the combined net profits of the 25 banks reached EGP 82.16 billion in Q1 2026, representing 20% growth compared with EGP 68.5 billion during the same period in 2025. CIB retained its title as the most profitable private-sector bank, reporting EGP 17.74 billion in net profits during the first quarter of the year. QNB Egypt came second with net profits of EGP 8.86 billion during the same period. Net profits of Islamic banks reached EGP 9.09 billion, growing by 59.1% in Q1 2026, compared with a 50.1% decline during the corresponding period in 2025, indicating a relative acceleration in their performance. On the other hand, eight banks recorded significant declines in net profits during Q1 2026: National Bank of Kuwait (NBK Egypt), Bank of Alexandria, Crédit Agricole Egypt, United Bank, Al Baraka Bank Egypt, ADCB Egypt, ABC Bank, and SAIB. It should be noted that all figures and growth rates mentioned in the analysis above are based on the separate (standalone) financial statements announced by each bank as of March 2026.Faisal Islamic Bank topped the ranking, climbing from last place in the Q1 2025 classification, benefiting in part from a lower profit base during the comparison period.
