First Index: Customer deposits drive 90% of EBank’s asset growth in H1 2026
Export Development Bank of Egypt (EBank)’s total assets increased by 8 per cent during the first half of the year to EGP 223.45bn at end-June 2026, from EGP 206.93bn at end-2025, an increase of EGP 16.52bn, according to the bank's financial statements .
The increase in total assets was driven by higher customer deposits, which represented the main source of funding for the bank’s balance sheet during H1 2026. Customer deposits increased by EGP 14.86bn, accounting for around 90 per cent of the increase in the bank’s assets during the first half of the year.
Customer deposits rose 10.2 per cent during the first half of 2026 to EGP 160.62bn at end-June 2026, from EGP 145.76bn at end-2025.
This growth increased the share of the bank’s total assets funded by customer deposits to 71.88 per cent at end-June 2026, compared with 70.44 per cent at end-2025.
Meanwhile, the share of total assets funded by shareholders’ equity edged up to 12.04 per cent at end-June, from 11.63 per cent at end-2025.
Shareholders’ equity reached around EGP 26.9bn at end-June 2026, compared with EGP 24.07bn at end-2025, growing 11.8 per cent during H1 2026.
As for amounts due to banks, their share of the bank’s asset funding declined to 13.91 per cent at end-June 2026, from 15.37 per cent at end-2025, after the balance reached EGP 31.08bn at end-June.
Overall, Export Development Bank of Egypt (EBank) delivered a strong performance during the year, with net profit rising to EGP 3.75bn in the first half of 2026, from EGP 2.61bn in the corresponding period of 2025, representing growth of 43.9 per cent.
Net interest income increased to EGP 5.26bn in the first half of 2026, from EGP 4.73bn in the same period of 2025, recording growth of 10.5 per cent.
Net income from fees and commissions also rose by around 1.1 per cent to EGP 767.01m in the first half of 2026, from EGP 758.68m in the same period of 2025.
Loans and advances to customers increased by 12.2 per cent during the first half of the year to EGP 97.33bn at end-June 2026, from EGP 86.75bn at end-2025, an increase of EGP 10.58bn.
