Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (ABK-Egypt) has strengthened its position in Egypt’s banking market in recent years, supported by robust growth in total assets and a marked improvement in overall performance.
The performance reflects the bank’s strategy to reinforce its financial position, expand its customer base, and deepen confidence in its banking services.
The bank recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 31.4 per cent in total assets over the past three and a half years, with its balance sheet expanding to around EGP 196.7bn at end-June 2026, from EGP 75.6bn at end-2022.
This performance was reflected in the bank’s ranking among banks operating in Egypt, as it advanced five places among the country’s largest banks by total assets, rising from 24th at end-2022 to 19th at end-June 2026.
The improvement reflects the bank’s ability to achieve accelerated growth rates, support its expansion, and strengthen its presence in the banking market.
Looking at the structure of the bank’s asset funding over the period, customer deposits accounted for around 78.8 per cent of total assets.
The deposit portfolio recorded a CAGR of 29.1 per cent over the past three and a half years, rising to EGP 161.6bn at end-June 2026 from EGP 66.2bn at end-2022.
Alongside customer deposits, shareholders’ equity contributed around 16.2 per cent to funding the bank’s assets, after recording a CAGR of 50.2 per cent over the past three and a half years. Shareholders’ equity rose to around EGP 25.8bn at end-June 2026 from EGP 6.2bn at end-2022.
This performance underscores ABK-Egypt’s ability to maintain strong and sustainable growth rates that extended beyond the expansion of total assets and their components to its competitive position among banks operating in Egypt.
The bank’s five-place rise over the period analysed demonstrates its success in achieving growth rates that outpaced many peers, helping narrow the gap with higher-ranked banks and strengthen its position among the country’s largest banks by total assets.
Against this backdrop, ABK-Egypt ranked among the fastest-growing banks operating in Egypt by total assets over the past three years, specifically between 2022 and 2025, according to First Bank’s rankings. The full ranking is available here.
The continued growth in assets also reflects the expansion of the bank’s operations and customer base, strengthening its prospects for further advancement among Egypt’s largest banks.
This comes as part of a strategy aimed at achieving balanced growth by reinforcing the bank’s financial strength, expanding its customer base and enhancing its ability to meet the needs of different market segments.
