The United Bank, ADIB-Egypt and CIB lead customer deposit growth in H1 2026
The United Bank surges from ninth to first in just six months
Only three banks retain top-10 positions between 2025 and June 2026
CIB reinforces lead as the largest private-sector bank by deposits, with a portfolio exceeding EGP 1tn
Islamic banks remain underrepresented in the top 10, with only one of four included
The United Bank topped First Bank’s ranking of banks operating in Egypt by customer deposit growth in the first half of 2026, surging from ninth place in the 2025 ranking to the top spot.
The advance was supported by 20.79 per cent growth in its customer deposit portfolio in just six months, reaching EGP 91.58bn at end-June 2026, compared with EGP 75.82bn at end-2025, reflecting an acceleration in deposit growth and the bank’s increased ability to attract liquidity.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) ranked second after its customer deposit portfolio rose by around 19.62 per cent in the first six months of 2026 to EGP 332.67bn at end-June, compared with EGP 278.09bn at end-2025.
This made it the only Islamic bank among the top 10 out of the four Islamic banks included in the ranking, supported by the strong growth rate recorded during the period.
Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) ranked third among the fastest-growing banks by customer deposits, after its portfolio increased by around 17.95 per cent on a half-year basis to EGP 1.30tn at end-June 2026, compared with EGP 1.11tn at end-2025.
This reinforced its position as the largest private-sector bank by deposit portfolio, supported by the scale of its deposits, which exceeded EGP 1tn at end-June 2026.
First Bank’s ranking tracked the development of customer deposit portfolios at 24 banks operating in Egypt’s banking sector for which financial data were available.
It showed that 23 banks recorded positive growth during the first half of 2026, while FABMISR was the only bank to report a decline in its customer deposit portfolio during the period.
Only three banks retained their presence among the top 10 in both the June 2026 and 2025 rankings.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) ranked second in both periods, while The United Bank surged from ninth place in 2025 to the top of the ranking at end-June 2026, and Suez Canal Bank fell from first place to 10th.
All figures and growth rates cited in the above analysis are based on the standalone financial statements published by each bank at end-June 2026.
