CIB strengthens its digital leadership with EGP3.6tn in digital transactions in H1 2026
Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) has reinforced its position in digital banking, supported by international recognition for its achievements in this field and continued investment in developing its electronic channels. This comes as the bank’s H1 2026 results reveal notable growth in the value of digital transactions and an expanding user base, highlighting the growing role of technology in delivering banking services.
The figures reflect the scale of this progress, as the value of transactions conducted through the bank’s digital platforms reached approximately EGP3.6tn in H1 2026, marking a 55 per cent year-on-year increase. Meanwhile, the volume of transactions grew by 15 per cent.
This indicates wider adoption of digital channels for banking operations and their growing importance beyond serving as an alternative means of accessing banking services.
This growth also extended to the user base, which exceeded 2.2 mn users of the bank’s digital banking platforms by the end of June 2026, representing a 15 per cent increase year-on-year. This reflects the expanding use of digital services alongside the rise in transaction values.
It also supports the bank’s strategy to strengthen reliance on its electronic channels.
The bank’s progress was not limited to serving existing customers, but also extended to attracting new ones. CIB welcomed approximately 227,000 new customers during H1 2026, marking a 35 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2025.
At the same time, the share of new customers registering digitally reached 83 per cent, up 21 per cent year-on-year, highlighting the role of digital infrastructure in facilitating customer onboarding.
Digital channels have also expanded beyond daily banking transactions to include access to banking products, with 90.2 per cent of certificates of deposit being acquired through digital channels. This reflects the growing role of digital services in providing access to savings products, further strengthening the integration of the bank’s digital banking experience.
The bank’s digital transformation has also extended to more specialised solutions for the corporates segment through the launch of CIB Business during Q1 2026, the first mobile banking application dedicated to business banking customers.
The application enables corporates to manage their accounts and conduct financial transactions electronically, while allowing them to customise transaction execution and approval authorities according to each company’s organisational structure.
This enhances the efficiency of banking operations management and supports the bank’s strategy to expand its digital services to meet the needs of different customer segments.
In recognition of CIB’s efforts to develop digital banking services and promote innovation, the bank received the ‘Best Digital Bank in Egypt’ award from Euromoney for 2026, alongside ‘The Innovator 2026’ award from Global Finance at the African level.
These accolades recognise the bank’s innovations in digital banking services and reflect international appreciation for its commitment to developing electronic channels and delivering digital solutions that enhance the customer experience.
Overall, the growth in digital transaction values, the expanding user base, and the increasing reliance on digital registration and product acquisition highlight a transformation that goes beyond introducing new services to expanding the role of digital channels in the bank’s relationship with its customers.
As this trend continues, the bank’s ability to further increase the adoption of its digital services and develop solutions that meet evolving customer needs will remain among the key indicators to watch in the coming periods.
