Hassan Abdullah, the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, delivered a speech during the annual session of the Executive Council of the World Food Program in Rome. The speech focused on the Council's approval of the program's strategic plan for Egypt for the upcoming 5-year period of 2023-2028, with a value of $431 mn.

Abdullah highlighted the efforts undertaken by the Egyptian government in the field of World Food Program activities in Egypt, as well as its forthcoming plan with a budget of $431 mn. The plan is being implemented in cooperation and coordination with relevant ministries and government entities.

He emphasized that the plan focuses on supporting the agricultural sector, enhancing financial inclusion, supporting small-scale farmers, empowering women in rural areas, and providing support for refugees in Egypt. The objectives of the plan align with the sustainable development priorities of the Egyptian government, with a particular focus on supporting Decent Life initiative for the development of Egyptian rural villages.

Abdullah met with Cindy McCain, the Executive Director of the World Food Program, at its headquarters, in the presence of Bassam Rady, the Egyptian Ambassador to Italy. The fruitful partnership between the two sides and the program's activities in Egypt, especially in terms of enhancing financial inclusion for small-scale farmers and providing technical support, were discussed.

McCain expressed the program's appreciation for Egypt's role in supporting its work, especially in light of the successive unprecedented humanitarian crises in the region.

Bassam Rady affirmed that the new plan of the World Food Program reflects the depth of the long-term strategic partnership between Egypt and the program, which is one of the largest international organizations engaged in supporting humanitarian efforts and food security worldwide.

He explained that the embassy has provided comprehensive and regular explanations to the members of the Executive Council regarding the Egyptian authorities' intensive efforts in dealing with the influx of tens of thousands of displaced Sudanese brothers across Egypt's southern borders following the Sudan crisis.

He added that this has received praise from all participating delegations in the Executive Council session, acknowledging Egypt's humanitarian responsibility and the necessity of supporting the Egyptian authorities by international community institutions.
