Top Banks Focused on Retail Loans: HD Bank, Alex bank, Banque du Caire, and ABK _Egypt Lead

In a recent report by FirstBank, the banks that have shown the greatest concentration on Retail loans by the end of March, were revealed. Topping the list was HD Bank, as their portfolio of retail loans accounted for 56% of the total customer loans, reaching EGP21.9 bn by the end of March 2023. Their total customer loan portfolio amounted to EGP39.1 bn during the same period.
The list highlights the investment trends of 20 major banks in the Egyptian banking sector, based on their financial data for the analyzed period. The focus is specifically on retail loans, measured by the ratio of Personal Loans/Total Customer Loans, providing an indicator of the bank's emphasis on personal loans.
Taking the second spot, Alex Bank held 44.67% of their total customer loans in retail loan portfolio, which amounted to EGP27.01 bn. Their overall customer loans reached EGP 60.5 bn by the end of March 2023.
Securing the third place, Banque du caire saw its portfolio of retail loans amounting to EGP57.7 bn, representing 40.57% of their total customer loan portfolio, which stood at EGP 142.2 bn by the end of March 2023.
Moving on to the fourth position, ABK_Egypt, concentrated 36.35% of its total customer loans into retail loan portfolio, totaling EGP13.3 bn. Their total customer loan portfolio amounted to EGP36.7 bn by the end of March 2023.
In fifth place, Egyptian Gulf Bank focused 28.34% of its EGP 31.1 bn total customer loans in retail loan portfolio, which amounted to EGP8.8 bn by the end of March 2023. Following closely, Crédit Agricole Egypt achieved a concentration of 27.57% by the end of the same period.
The seventh position was secured by Emirates NBD - Egypt, with a concentration of 26.27% of its total customer loan portfolio, valuing at EGP13.7 bn, in the retail loan portfolio. Their overall customer loan portfolio reached around EGP52.3 bn by the end of March 2023. In the eighth position is aiBANK, with a concentration of 25.89% by the end of the current year.
Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank - Egypt claimed the ninth spot, focusing 24.40% of its EGP32.6 bn total customer loan portfolio into retail loan portfolio, which amounted to EGP8 bn by the end of March 2023.
Finally, in the tenth spot is saib, with personal loans accounting for 23.93% of its EGP45.8 bn total customer loan portfolio, reaching around EGP11 bn by the end of March 2023. Following closely is Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank - Egypt, with a concentration of 22.93% by the end of the same period.
