Faisal Islamic Bank, the United Bank and AAIB top best banks in terms of leverage ratio by March 2025-End

First Bank list of the best banks in terms of leverage ratio at the end of March 2025 revealed that Faisal Islamic Bank topped the list, after its leverage ratio reached 14.04% at the end of last March.

The list, which included 23 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector, showed that 19 of them were able to achieve a leverage ratio that exceeds the prevailing average in the banking sector, which is 7.6% by the end of March 2025, according to the latest statistical bulletin of the Central Bank of Egypt, while all banks succeeded in committing to a leverage ratio of no less than 3%, on a quarterly basis as a binding regulatory ratio starting in 2018.

Leverage reflects the relationship between the first tranche of capital used in the capital adequacy criterion (after exclusions) to cover the bank's assets (inside and outside the financial position), not weighted by weights.

The leverage ratio consists of the first tranche of capital after exclusions divided by all assets inside and outside the financial position, not weighted by risk weights. Banks must disclose the leverage ratio, numerator components, and denominator in their financial statements.

Returning to the list, United Bank snatched second place after its leverage reached 13.29%, followed by the Arab African International Bank with 12.65% at the end of March 2025.

Arab Banking Corporation Bank «ABC» won fourth place, with its leverage rate reaching 11.90% at the end of March 2025, followed by Kuwait Finance House - Egypt with 11.78% at the end of last March.

Credit Agricole Bank - Egypt came sixth with a leverage rate of 10.99%, followed by Arab Banking Company Bank «SAIB» with a leverage rate of 10.63% at the end of March 2025.

The Commercial International Bank «CIB» came in eighth place, after its leverage reached 10.60%, then HSBC Bank – Egypt «HSBC» by 10.48% at the end of March 2025.

As for tenth place, it went to the National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt «NBK–Egypt» with a leverage rate of 10.15% at the end of March 2025.

It is worth noting that all data mentioned in the above analysis are in accordance with the independent financial statements announced for each bank by the end of March 2025
