Foreign banks dominate, capturing 8 seats among the top 10 private-sector banks in deposit-to-loans utilization ratio
Islamic banks secure two spots among the top ten
Listed banks control half of the seats among the top 10 private-sector banks in deposit-to-loans utilization ratio
The list released by «First Bank» for the best private-sector banks operating in Egypt in terms of deposit-to-loans utilization ratio as of the end of September 2025 revealed that «Kuwait Finance House – Egypt» topped the ranking with a utilization ratio of 76.06%, after recording total customer loans of EGP 99.80 bn, while its deposit portfolio stood at EGP 131.22 bn by the end of September 2025.
«National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt» «NBK-Egypt» ranked second, posting a deposit-to-loans utilization ratio of 67.63%, after its total customer loan portfolio reached EGP 120.87 bn by the end of September 2025, while its deposit base amounted to EGP 178.71 bn during the same period.
Suez Canal Bank secured the third position with a utilization ratio of 61%, after its total customer loan portfolio rose to EGP 109.61 bn, while its customer deposits reached EGP 179.69 bn by the end of September 2025.
The ranking, which included 21 private banks operating within the Egyptian banking sector, showed that 20 banks achieved sound utilization ratios ranging between 76.06% and 26.24%. Meanwhile, Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt continued to move against the prevailing trend, recording the lowest deposit-to-loans utilization ratio as of the end of September 2025.
The data also revealed a strong performance by foreign banking groups operating in Egypt, as they captured 8 seats among the top 10 private-sector banks in deposit-to-loans utilization ratio, namely: «Kuwait Finance House – Egypt», «National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt», «Al Baraka», «QNB» Egypt, «Emirates NBD», «FABMISR», «Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt», and «Credit Agricole – Egypt», while other banking groups were absent from the top ten positions.
Banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange secured half of the seats among the top 10 private-sector banks in deposit-to-loans utilization ratio, namely: «Suez Canal Bank», «Al Baraka», «QNB» Egypt, «Credit Agricole – Egypt», and «EGBANK».
At the level of Islamic banks, only two institutions secured spots among the top ten, namely: «Kuwait Finance House – Egypt» and «Al Baraka».
It is worth noting that private-sector banks are defined as banks in which private ownership exceeds 50% of total capital, according to data issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Public Business Sector.
