Islamic Banks Secure Two Positions Among the Top 10, Out of Four Islamic Banks Included in the Ranking
«First Bank’s» ranking tracking the development of customer deposit portfolios among banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector during the first quarter of 2026 revealed that «HSBC-Egypt» topped the list. The bank’s strong performance was supported by a 21.3% increase in its customer deposit portfolio, which reached EGP 322.78 billion by the end of March 2026, compared with EGP 266.11 billion at the end of 2025.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Egypt «ADIB» ranked second after its customer deposit portfolio grew by 15.5% during the first three months of 2026, reaching EGP 321.31 billion by the end of March, compared with EGP 278.09 billion at the end of 2025.
National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt «NBK-Egypt» secured third place, as its customer deposit portfolio jumped by approximately 13.1% on a quarterly basis, reaching EGP 203.64 billion by the end of March 2026, compared with EGP 180.01 billion at the end of 2025.
«First Bank’s» ranking monitored customer deposit portfolios at 25 banks operating within the Egyptian banking sector for which financial statements were available. The analysis showed that all surveyed banks achieved positive growth rates during the first quarter of 2026.
The ranking also highlighted the success of four banks in maintaining their positions among the ten fastest-growing banks in customer deposits during both 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. These banks were «HSBC», «ADIB», «The United Bank» and «Suez Canal Bank».
In terms of size, Commercial International Bank – Egypt «CIB» continued to strengthen its position as the largest private-sector bank by customer deposits. Its deposit portfolio reached EGP 1.21 trillion, compared with EGP 1.11 trillion at the end of 2025, recording a growth rate of approximately 9.5%.
This performance placed «CIB» tenth among the ten fastest-growing banks in customer deposits during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting its ability to combine a large balance sheet with sustainable growth.
«QNB» Egypt also maintained its position as the second-largest private-sector bank in terms of customer deposits by the end of March 2026.
The bank’s customer deposit portfolio reached EGP 880.94 billion, compared with EGP 779.31 billion at the end of 2025, recording a quarterly growth rate of 13.04%, which secured fourth place in the ranking of the ten fastest-growing banks in customer deposits during the first quarter of the year.
At the sector level, customer deposits at the 25 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector increased by approximately 9.4% during the first quarter of 2026, reaching EGP 6.99 trillion by the end of March, compared with EGP 6.39 trillion at the end of 2025.
The ranking also revealed that two Islamic banks appeared among the top ten fastest-growing banks, out of the four Islamic banks included in the analysis. «ADIB» ranked second, while Faisal Islamic Bank secured eighth place.
It is worth noting that all values and growth rates mentioned in the above analysis are based on the standalone financial statements announced by each bank as of the end of March 2026.
