National Bank of Egypt maintained its commanding lead, accounting for more than one-third of the Egyptian banking sector’s total assets

The ranking of Egypt’s largest banks remained unchanged from 2025

Total banking sector assets reached EGP 26.89 trillion, up 11.5% during the first quarter of 2026

Foreign banks secured four spots among the top 10 banks, out of the 17 banks included in the ranking.

Islamic banks’ share of total sector assets edged down to 3.77% at the end of March 2026, compared with 3.81% at the end of 2025

According to the First Bank ranking, «National Bank of Egypt» ranked first with a market share of approximately 35.21% of total banking sector assets.

«Banque Misr» ranked second with a market share of around 16.31%.

«Commercial International Bank (CIB)» came in third with a 5.81% market share and total assets of approximately EGP 1.56 trillion.

The ranking covered 33 banks operating in Egypt for which standalone financial statements were available as of the end of March 2026.

The top 10 rankings remained completely unchanged compared with the 2025 edition.

Foreign-owned banks occupied four positions in the top 10: «QNB Egypt» ranked fifth, «FABMISR» seventh, «HSBC Egypt» ninth, and «Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Egypt» tenth.

Among Islamic banks, «Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank Egypt», «Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt», «Kuwait Finance House Egypt», and «Al Baraka Bank Egypt» saw their combined market share decline slightly to 3.80% at the end of March 2026, compared with 3.71% at the end of 2025.

Total banking sector assets rose to EGP 26.89 trillion at the end of March 2026, up from EGP 24.12 trillion at the end of 2025, representing annual growth of 11.5%.

All figures and market shares are based on the standalone financial statements published by each bank as of the end of March 2026.
