The «First Bank» list of the best banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector in terms of liquidity ratio at the end of March 2026 revealed that «HSBC» leads with a liquidity ratio of 35.38% at the end of March 2026.
«Credit Agricole Bank» came in second with a liquidity ratio of 33.98% at the end of March 2026.
«Bank of Alexandria» secured third place with a liquidity ratio of 32.37% at the end of last March.
The list included 25 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data was available during the period under analysis, according to the independent financial statements published by each bank at the end of March 2026.
The liquidity ratio in banks is defined as a specific ratio that reflects a bank's ability to meet its short-term obligations without needing to liquidate long-term assets or borrow. The ratio is calculated as follows: (Cash and balances with the Central Bank + balances with other banks) / (Total assets).
This ratio is considered an indicator of a bank's financial health and its ability to cover deposits and other financial obligations in the short term. However, it can also indicate a decline in profitability if liquidity is not effectively utilized in profitable investments.
Regarding the ranking, the average liquidity ratio in the Egyptian banking sector reached 21.2% at the end of March 2026, with 13 banks achieving a liquidity ratio higher than the sector average.
Foreign banks secured seven spots in the top ten out of the 14 foreign banks included in the ranking: «HSBC», «Crédit Agricole», «Bank of Alexandria», «First Abu Dhabi Bank», «Attijariwafa Bank», «ABC», and «Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank».
As for Islamic banks, only one secured a place in the top ten: «Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt», which ranked fourth.
It is worth noting that all the figures mentioned in the above analysis are based on the independent financial statements published by each bank as of the end of March 2026.
