Arab African International Bank (AAIB) topped First Bank’s ranking of the fastest-growing banks operating in Egypt by retail deposits over the past three years, recording a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 59.74 per cent. Its retail deposits reached EGP 296.89 billion at end-2025, compared with EGP 72.84 billion at end-2022.

Housing and Development Bank (HDB) ranked second, with retail deposits growing at a three-year CAGR of 56.45 per cent to EGP 104.25 billion at end-2025 from EGP 27.22 billion at end-2022.

Suez Canal Bank ranked third, recording a three-year CAGR of 42.83 per cent. Its retail deposit portfolio reached EGP 37.32 billion at end-December 2025, compared with EGP 12.81 billion at end-2022.

First Bank’s ranking tracked the retail deposit portfolios of 26 banks operating in Egypt for which financial data were available, with all banks recording positive growth over the three-year period.

At the sector level, 16 banks in the ranking recorded retail deposit growth above the banking sector’s three-year CAGR of 25.93 per cent, according to Central Bank of Egypt data. The remaining 10 banks recorded growth rates below the sector average.

The banking sector’s retail deposits recorded a three-year CAGR of 25.93 per cent, rising to EGP 9.56 trillion at end-2025 from EGP 4.79 trillion at end-2022.

Foreign banks secured five of the top 10 positions for retail deposit growth over the past three years, out of 12 foreign banks covered by the ranking. The five were Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB Egypt), Kuwait Finance House – Egypt (KFH-Egypt), Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (ABK-Egypt), Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank – Egypt (ADCB Egypt) and National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (NBK-Egypt).

Islamic banks secured two places among the 10 fastest-growing banks by retail deposits over the period. ADIB Egypt ranked fifth, while KFH-Egypt placed sixth.

The ranking also showed that Egypt’s three largest state-owned banks were absent from the top 10. Banque Misr ranked 18th, Banque du Caire 19th and National Bank of Egypt (NBE) 22nd.

All figures and growth rates cited in the analysis are based on the standalone financial statements published by each bank.
