Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) topped First Bank’s ranking of major Arab banks by return on average equity (ROAE), recording a return of 29.74 per cent in Q1 2026, supported by net profit of USD 325 million, reflecting the bank’s ability to generate strong returns on shareholders’ equity.
The ranking tracks ROAE among major Arab banks, defined by First Bank’s Rankings Centre as banks with total assets exceeding USD 15 billion.
Among the top 10 banks, National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah (RAKBANK) ranked second, with ROAE of 27.84 per cent, supported by net profit of USD 274 million in Q1 2026.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) ranked third, recording ROAE of about 23.38 per cent, supported by net profit of USD 497 million in the first three months of 2026.
Emirates Islamic ranked fourth, with ROAE of about 20.47 per cent after reporting net profit of around USD 231 million in Q1 2026.
Mashreq ranked fifth, recording ROAE of 18.73 per cent, supported by net profit of USD 525 million in Q1 2026.
Al Rajhi Bank ranked sixth, with ROAE of 18.30 per cent after recording net profit of USD 1.80 billion in the first three months of 2026.
Emirates NBD ranked seventh, recording ROAE of 17.73 per cent, supported by net profit of USD 1.75 billion during the period under review.
Commercial Bank of Dubai ranked eighth, with ROAE of about 17.59 per cent after reporting net profit of USD 226 million in Q1 2026.
National Bank of Fujairah (NBF) ranked ninth, recording ROAE of 17.36 per cent, supported by net profit of USD 93 million in the first three months of 2026.
Attijariwafa bank completed the top 10, with ROAE of about 16.86 per cent, supported by net profit of USD 375 million in Q1 2026.
The ranking included parent banking groups across Arab countries and excluded their foreign banking subsidiaries.
Banks without official Q1 2026 data were excluded from the ranking to ensure the accuracy of the results and the reliability of the methodology.
