Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) topped First Bank’s ranking of Egyptian Exchange (EGX)-listed banks on the First Bank Credit Competitiveness Index in H1 2026, supported by the largest increase in its customer loan portfolio.

CIB’s customer loan portfolio increased by around EGP 89.94 billion during the first six months of the year to EGP 631.34 billion at end-June 2026, from EGP 541.41 billion at end-2025.

CIB retained the top position after also ranking first in 2025, reflecting its continued ability to deliver strong and sustained increases in customer loans ahead of its peers.

QNB Egypt ranked second after adding around EGP 54.07 billion to its customer loan portfolio during H1 2026, taking the total to EGP 518.91 billion at end-June, from EGP 464.84 billion at end-2025.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) ranked third after its customer loan portfolio increased by EGP 43.36 billion during H1 2026 to EGP 198.23 billion at end-June, from EGP 154.87 billion at end-2025. This made it the only Islamic bank among the top five, out of three Islamic banks included in the ranking.

The First Bank Credit Competitiveness Index tracked movements in customer loan portfolios across all 12 banks listed on the EGX, with all banks included in the ranking recording increases in their loan portfolios during H1 2026.

The First Bank Credit Competitiveness Index measures banks’ ability to expand credit activity by increasing financing extended to retail and corporate customers. Banks are ranked by the absolute increase in total customer financing during the period under review.

The index results show notable growth in combined customer loan portfolios at EGX-listed banks, which exceeded EGP 2 trillion for the first time at end-June 2026, reaching EGP 2.05 trillion from EGP 1.78 trillion at end-2025, an increase of EGP 267.64 billion.

The ranking showed considerable stability at the top, with four banks retaining positions among the top five in H1 2026 compared with the 2025 ranking. The only change was Housing and Development Bank (HDB) moving into the top five, replacing one bank.

CIB, QNB Egypt and ADIB-Egypt retained the top three positions, respectively, unchanged from the 2025 ranking.

HDB moved up to fourth place in H1 2026 from 10th in the 2025 ranking, making it the biggest mover among the top five during the period.

Suez Canal Bank, meanwhile, slipped to fifth place from fourth in the 2025 ranking, while remaining among the top five on the First Bank Credit Competitiveness Index.

All values and growth rates cited in the analysis above are based on the standalone financial statements published by each bank at end-June 2026.
