Al Baraka Bank topped First Bank’s ranking of the best Egyptian Exchange (EGX)-listed banks by loan-to-deposit ratio at end-June 2026, with a ratio of 65.21 per cent, rising from sixth place in the 2025 ranking and recording the largest climb in the classification.
This shift reflects a higher proportion of deposits being channelled into loans, indicating an expanded role for financing activity in the use of customer deposits compared with the previous year.
Al Baraka Bank’s customer loans reached around EGP 83.13bn at end-June 2026, compared with total customer deposits of EGP 127.48bn at the end of the same period.
Export Development Bank of Egypt (EBank) ranked second, with a loan-to-deposit ratio of 60.59 per cent, after its customer loan portfolio reached around EGP 97.33bn, compared with EGP 160.62bn in customer deposits at end-June 2026.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) ranked third, with a loan-to-deposit ratio of 59.59 per cent, after its customer loan portfolio reached around EGP 198.23bn at end-June 2026, compared with EGP 332.67bn in customer deposits at the end of the same period.
The ranking of the top three listed banks reflected a notable presence of Islamic banks, which secured two of the top three positions, representing two-thirds of the Islamic banks listed on the EGX.
The ranking, which included all 12 banks listed on the EGX, showed a marginal decline in the loan-to-deposit ratio to 51.65 per cent at end-June 2026, from 51.75 per cent at end-2025.
The composition of the top five showed clear changes compared with the 2025 ranking. Although two banks retained their places among the top five, both changed positions, with Export Development Bank of Egypt (EBank) moving up from third to second, while Suez Canal Bank fell from second to fifth.
Meanwhile, three banks entered the top five compared with the 2025 ranking: Al Baraka Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) and saib, while three banks dropped out, resulting in a clear reshuffling of the leading positions at end-June 2026 compared with the ranking at end-2025.
All figures and loan-to-deposit ratios cited in the above analysis are based on the standalone financial statements announced by each bank at end-June 2026.
