Housing and Development Bank (HDB) retained the top position in First Bank’s ranking of EGX-listed banks by capital adequacy ratio at end-June 2026 and end-2025, recording a ratio of 41.67 per cent at end-June. The result reflects the sustained strength of its financial position and its ability to maintain high levels of capital coverage.

Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt ranked second, with a capital adequacy ratio of around 28.46 per cent at end-June 2026.

Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) ranked third, with a capital adequacy ratio of 28.40 per cent at end-June.

The ranking included all 12 banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX). The capital adequacy ratio measures the ratio of a bank’s capital components to its assets weighted for contingent risks, and illustrates the relationship between the source of capital and the risks surrounding the bank’s assets and other operations.

The top five remained unchanged in terms of the banks included at end-June 2026 compared with the 2025 ranking, although some changes occurred in their positions.

HDB retained the top spot, while Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt rose to second place from fourth at end-2025. CIB, meanwhile, slipped from second to third, while QNB Egypt fell to fourth from third. The United Bank retained fifth place at both end-June 2026 and end-2025.

At the sector level, seven EGX-listed banks recorded capital adequacy ratios above the banking sector average of 18.5 per cent, according to the latest data published by the Central Bank of Egypt.

The capital adequacy ratios in the analysis above are based on the standalone financial statements published by each bank for the period ended June 2026.
