Retail financing at EGX-listed banks reaches EGP 440.16bn, up EGP 50.93bn in H1 2026

Islamic banks secure only one top-five spot out of three included in the ranking

Commercial International Bank – Egypt (CIB) led First Bank’s ranking of Egyptian Exchange (EGX)-listed banks on the First Bank Retail Lending Competitiveness Index in the first half of 2026, moving up from fourth place.

The bank was supported by the largest increase in its retail financing portfolio, reflecting its ability to deliver strong and sustained growth ahead of its peers.

CIB’s retail financing portfolio increased by around EGP 11.08bn during the first six months of the year to EGP 103.36bn at end-June 2026, from EGP 92.28bn at end-2025.

QNB Egypt ranked second, moving up from third place, after adding around EGP 10.89bn to its retail financing portfolio during the first half of 2026. The portfolio rose to EGP 92bn at end-June, from EGP 81.11bn at end-2025.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt), meanwhile, slipped to third place from first in the 2025 ranking. Its retail financing portfolio increased by EGP 9.36bn during the first half of 2026 to EGP 57.69bn at end-June, from EGP 48.33bn at end-2025. This made it the only Islamic bank among the top five, out of three Islamic banks included in the ranking.

The First Bank Retail Lending Competitiveness Index tracked movements in retail financing portfolios across all 12 banks listed on the EGX.

The data showed that all banks included in the ranking recorded increases in their retail financing portfolios during the first half of 2026.

The First Bank Retail Lending Competitiveness Index measures the ability of banks operating in Egypt to expand their credit activity by increasing financing extended to retail customers. Banks are ranked according to the absolute increase in total retail financing during the period under review.

The index results showed notable growth in the combined retail financing portfolios of EGX-listed banks, reaching EGP 440.16bn at end-June 2026, from EGP 389.23bn at end-2025, an increase of EGP 50.93bn.

All values and growth rates mentioned in the analysis above are based on the standalone financial statements published by each bank at end-June 2026.
