Faisal Islamic Bank leads banks operating in Egypt in net profit growth in H1 2026

Six banks operating in Egypt record notable declines in net profit in H1 2026
Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt topped First Bank’s ranking of banks operating in Egypt by net profit growth in the first half of 2026, after recording strong growth of 193.0 per cent.
The bank's net profit rose to EGP 3.88bn in the first half of the year, compared with EGP 1.32bn in the corresponding period of 2025. The strong increase propelled the bank to the top of the ranking after it had placed 25th among the fastest-growing banks by profit in the first half of 2025.
Export Development Bank of Egypt (EBank) claimed second place, with net profit rising 43.9 per cent to EGP 3.75bn in the first half of 2026, compared with EGP 2.61bn in the same period of 2025.
Bank NXT ranked third, as net profit increased by around 34.9 per cent to EGP 1.51bn in the first half of 2026, from EGP 1.12bn in the corresponding period of 2025.
First Bank’s ranking tracked net profit at 24 banks operating in Egypt’s banking sector for which financial data were available. The data showed that 18 banks recorded positive growth rates, while six posted notable declines during the first half of 2026.
At the sector level, the combined net profit of the 24 banks reached EGP 147.8bn in the first half of 2026, up 14.2 per cent from EGP 129.39bn in the corresponding period of 2025.
Commercial International Bank (CIB) retained its position as the most profitable private-sector bank, recording net profit of EGP 39.24bn in the first half of the year. QNB Egypt ranked second, with a net profit of EGP 17.79bn over the same period.
Meanwhile, Islamic banks recorded a combined net profit of around EGP 15.18bn in the first half of 2026, representing growth of 36.9 per cent, compared with a 31.4 per cent decline in the corresponding period of 2025, signalling a marked acceleration in their performance.
On the other hand, six banks recorded notable declines in net profit during the first half of 2026: Al Baraka Bank Egypt, FABMISR, the United Bank, ADCB, Bank ABC, and saib.
