Arab African International Bank (AAIB) topped First Bank’s ranking of the fastest-growing banks operating in Egypt by retail banking over the past three years, with its retail banking portfolio recording a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 54 per cent.
The performance was driven by growth in retail deposits, which reached EGP 296.89bn at end-2025 after recording a CAGR of 59.7 per cent over the period under review, while the bank’s retail loans reached EGP 30.96bn, representing a CAGR of 22.2 per cent over the same period.

First Bank’s ranking tracked the development of the retail banking business at 26 banks operating in Egypt’s banking sector for which the necessary financial data were available over the past three years, from 2022 to 2025. The ranking showed that all banks recorded positive compound annual growth rates over the period.
The ranking was based on a composite index developed by First Bank to measure growth in banks’ retail loan and retail deposit portfolios.
At the sector level, the data showed that the first 19 banks among the 26 included in the ranking exceeded the 26-bank average CAGR of 24.3 per cent over the past three years, while the remaining banks recorded growth rates below the average over the same period.
Among the foreign banks included in the ranking, four of the 11 secured places among the 10 fastest-growing banks in retail banking over the past three years: Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt), Kuwait Finance House – Egypt (KFH-Egypt), Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (ABK-Egypt), and Al Baraka Bank Egypt.
The ranking also saw Egypt’s two largest state-owned banks absent from the leading positions, with Banque Misr ranking 20th and National Bank of Egypt (NBE) 23rd. However, they retained their positions as Egypt’s two largest banks in retail banking.
Among the Islamic banks included in the ranking, three of the four secured places among the 10 fastest-growing banks in retail banking over the past three years: Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt), Kuwait Finance House – Egypt (KFH-Egypt), and Al Baraka Bank Egypt.
