ADIB-Egypt, Suez Canal Bank lead shareholders’ equity growth over three years

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) led First Bank’s ranking of the fastest-growing banks operating in Egypt by shareholders’ equity over the past three years, recording a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 57.44 per cent.

The performance was underpinned by strong growth over the period, with shareholders’ equity rising to EGP 33.65bn at end-2025 from EGP 8.62bn at end-2022.

This placed ADIB-Egypt at the forefront of the fastest-growing banks by shareholders’ equity and gave it a distinctive position within the Islamic banking sector, as the only Islamic bank among the top 10 out of four included in the ranking.

Suez Canal Bank ranked second, with shareholders’ equity recording a CAGR of 54.45 per cent over the past three years, rising to EGP 20.27bn at end-2025, from EGP 5.50bn at end-2022.

Housing and Development Bank (HDB) ranked third, with a CAGR of 53.69 per cent over the past three years. Its shareholders’ equity reached EGP 37.54bn at end-December 2025, compared with EGP 10.34bn at end-2022.

First Bank’s ranking tracked the development of shareholders’ equity at 27 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which the necessary financial data were available over the past three years, from 2022 to 2025. All banks recorded positive compound annual growth rates over the period.

At the sector level, the data showed that the top 16 banks in the ranking exceeded the banking sector’s average CAGR of 34.3 per cent over the past three years, while the remaining banks recorded growth rates below this average over the same period.

As for the foreign banks included in the ranking, four secured places among the 10 fastest-growing banks by shareholders’ equity over the past three years, out of 12 foreign banks covered by the ranking. These were ADIB-Egypt, Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (ABK Egypt), Emirates NBD Egypt and HSBC.
