First Bank’s ranking of banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector by asset-to-deposit coverage ratio at end-June 2026 revealed that Agricultural Bank of Egypt topped the list, recording a ratio of 215.59 per cent.
The bank’s total assets reached approximately EGP 476.86bn, compared with customer deposits of EGP 221.19bn at the end of the same period.
Banque Misr ranked second, with an asset-to-deposit coverage ratio of 142.07 per cent. The bank’s total assets reached approximately EGP 4.29tn, while its customer deposit portfolio stood at around EGP 3.02tn at end-June 2026.
First Abu Dhabi Bank Misr (FABMISR) secured third place, with a coverage ratio of 140.70 per cent. Its total assets reached approximately EGP 419.99bn, compared with customer deposits of EGP 298.50bn at end-June 2026.
The ranking covered 26 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which the required financial data were available. All banks included in the ranking recorded asset-to-deposit coverage ratios exceeding 100 per cent.
The asset-to-deposit coverage ratio measures the extent to which a bank’s asset base covers its customer deposits.
It is calculated by dividing total assets by total deposits and multiplying the result by 100. A higher ratio indicates that a bank’s asset base is larger relative to its deposit obligations, providing an additional indicator for assessing its financial position.
The average asset-to-deposit coverage ratio across the 26 banks reached 133.77 per cent at end-June 2026. Their combined assets stood at approximately EGP 13.48tn, compared with total customer deposits of around EGP 10.07tn at the end of the same period.
Regarding foreign banking groups operating in Egypt, three secured positions among the top 10: FABMISR, National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt (NBK-Egypt) and Emirates NBD Egypt, ranking third, sixth and ninth, respectively.
In contrast, Islamic banks had a limited presence among the top 10. Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt was the only Islamic bank to make the ranking, securing seventh place with an asset-to-deposit coverage ratio of 130.30 per cent, out of the four Islamic banks included in the ranking.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Finance House – Egypt (KFH-Egypt), Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt (ADIB-Egypt) and Al Baraka Bank Egypt ranked outside the top 10.
All figures and asset-to-deposit coverage ratios cited in this analysis are based on the standalone financial statements published by each bank at end-June 2026.
