CBE: Domestic Liquidity Grows by 9.97%, Reaching EGP 8.141 Tn by May-2023end
The latest monthly data from the Central Bank of Egypt, released earlier on the bank's official website, revealed a 9.97% increase in domestic liquidity during the first 5 months of 2023, reaching EGP 8.141 tn by the end of May 2023. This is compared to EGP 7.403 tn at the end of December 2022, reflecting an increase of EGP 737.8 bn.
Local liquidity consists of money supply and quasi-money. The money supply includes currency in circulation outside the banking system and current deposits in local currency, while quasi-money includes current deposits in foreign currency and non-current deposits in both local and foreign currencies.
Meanwhile, Money supply increased by 13.55% to reach EGP 1.975 tn by the end of May 2023, compared to EGP 1.740 tn at the end of December 2022, indicating an increase of EGP 235.8 bn.
Currency in circulation outside the banking sector amounted to EGP 959.948 bn by the end of May 2023, compared to EGP 831.226 bn at the end of 2022, achieving a growth rate of 15.49% and an increase of EGP 128.7 bn.
