CBE: Domestic Liquidity Grows by 9%, Reaches EGP 8.07 Tn at April- 2023end

The latest monthly data released by the Egyptian Central Bank on its official website reveals a 9% increase in domestic liquidity during the first 4 months of 2023, reaching EGP8.069 tn by the end of April 2023, compared to EGP7.402 tn at the end of 2022, representing an increase of EGP666.410 bn.

Domestic liquidity consists of cash in circulation and near money. Cash in circulation includes cash outside the banking system and current deposits in local currency, while near money includes current deposits in foreign currency and non-current deposits in both local and foreign currencies.

Meanwhile, cash in circulation increased by 6.05% to reach EGP 1.905 tn at the end of last April, compared to EGP1.740 tn at the end of 2022, indicating an increase of EGP165 bn.

Cash outside the banking sector amounted to EGP926.677 bn at the end of April 2023, compared to EGP831.226 bn at the end of 2022, achieving a growth rate of 11.48% and an increase of EGP95.451 bn.
