CBE: Domestic liquidity grows by 4.16%, records EGP 7.71 tn, by Jan-2023end

The latest monthly bulletin of the Central Bank of Egypt, issued a on its official website, revealed that domestic liquidity increased by 4.16%, to record EGP7.710 tn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP7.402 tn at the end of 2022, an increase of EGP307.692 bn.

Domestic liquidity consists of the money supply, near money, money supply includes; Cash in circulation outside the banking system and current deposits in local currency, while Near money includes current deposits in foreign currency and non-current deposits in both local and foreign currencies.

The monthly bulletin of the Central Bank of Egypt indicated that the money supply (M1) recorded EGP 1.643 tn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP 1.739 tn at the end of 2022.

Cash circulating outside the banking sector recorded EGP797.112 bn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP831.226 bn at the end of 2022.

Moreover, current deposits in local currency reached EGP 846.011 bn at the end of last January, compared to EGP908.396 bn at the end of 2022.

Near money rose by 7.14%, to reach EGP 6.067 tn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP 5.663 tn at the end of 2022, an increase of EGP 404.191 bn.

Non-current deposits in local currency rose to EGP 4.628 tn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP 4.503 tn at the end of 2022, an increase of EGP 125.301 bn.

Current deposits in foreign currency jumped by 24.31%, reaching EGP 385.180 bn at the end of January 2023, compared to EGP309.862 bn at the end of 2022, an increase of EGP75.318 bn.

Non-current deposits in foreign currency rose from EGP 850.217 bn at the end of 2022 to EGP 1.053 tn at the end of January 2023, achieving a growth rate of 23.94%, and an increase of EGP 203.572 bn.
