Emirates NBD, EBank, and CIB, fastest-growing banks in direct loans during Q1-2023
First Bank
According to FirstBank list of fastest-growing banks in direct loans, Emirates NBD - Egypt topped the list with a growth rate of 30.94% during the first quarter of the current year. Its total loan portfolio reached EGP 15.164 bn by the end of March 2023, compared to EGP 11.581 bn by the end of December 2022.
FirstBank list recorded the total direct loans of 17 banks in the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data was available during the analysis period. It revealed that 14 banks achieved positive growth rates in their direct loans, while 3 banks experienced a decline in their total direct loans from January to March 2023.
Moving down the list, Export Development Bank (EBank) ranked second after achieving a total loan portfolio growth rate of 15.55% during the first quarter of the current year. Its portfolio increased from EGP 9.034 bn by the end of December 2022 to EGP 10.439 bn by the end of March 2023.
Commercial International Bank (CIB) secured the third position by achieving a growth rate of 12.51% in its total direct loan portfolio during the first quarter of the current year. Its value reached EGP 87.793 bn by the end of March 2023, compared to EGP 78.030 bn by the end of December 2022.
Attijariwafa bank came in fourth place with a growth rate of 10.40% during the first quarter of the current year. Its total direct loan portfolio increased to EGP 4.035 bn by the end of March 2023, compared to EGP 3.655 bn by the end of December 2022. Following CBE, Alex Bank achieved a growth rate of 9.52% during the same period.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank - Egypt ranked sixth after achieving a growth rate of 7.54% in its direct loan portfolio size during the first quarter of the current year. Its value reached EGP 39.580 bn by the end of March 2023, compared to EGP 36.804 bn by the end of December 2022.
As for the seventh position, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank - Egypt recorded a growth rate of 7.04% during the first quarter of the current year. Its total direct loan portfolio reached EGP 14.915 bn by the end of March 2023, compared to EGP 13.934 bn by the end of December 2022.
alBaraka Bank secured the eighth position after achieving a growth rate of 5.64% in its total direct loan portfolio during the first quarter of the current year. The value of its portfolio reached EGP 27.399 bn by the end of March 2023, compared to EGP 25.937 bn by the end of December 2022. It was followed by Ahli United Bank with a growth rate of 5.47% during the same period.
As for the tenth position, ABK - Egypt achieved a growth rate of 3.67% during the first quarter of the current year. The value of its direct loan portfolio reached EGP 14.763 bn by the end of March 2023, compared to EGP 14.241 bn by the end of December 2022.
It is worth noting that all the mentioned values and growth rates in the above analysis are based on separate financial statements announced by each bank by end of March 2023.
