FABMisr, AAIB, and NBE, Top banks in Assets-to-deposits coverage ratio by June-2023 end

Abu Dhabi First Bank - Egypt topped the list with a coverage rate of 148.79%, having total bank assets of around EGP289.4 bn and total deposits of EGP194.5 bn by the end of June 2023. Assets-to-deposits coverage ratio indicates the banks' ability to cover their customers' deposits using their asset portfolios.

The list included 23 banks in the Egyptian banking sector, all showing strong coverage ratios for their customers' deposits during the financial period ending in June 2023.

Arab African International Bank secured the second position with Assets-to-deposits coverage ratio of 147.91%, with total assets reaching EGP 420.1 bn and total deposit portfolio of about EGP 284 bn by the end of June 2023.

As for the third position, it was claimed by NBE, which possesses the largest asset and deposit portfolio among the banks operating in Egypt. It recorded an assets-to-deposits coverage rate of approximately 144.12% by the end of the first half of the current year, with total asset portfolio of EGP4.9 tn and total deposit portfolio of EGP3.4 tn by the end of June 2023, followed by Banque du caire with  132.88% by the end of the same period.

Egyptian Gulf Bank (EGBANK) ranked fifth with 132.50%, as its total asset portfolio recorded about EGP104.1 bn, while the size of its customers’ deposit portfolio reached EGP78.6 bn by the end of June 2023.

Faisal Islamic Bank-Egypt took sixth place with 127.83%, as the size of its assets recorded EGP169.5 bn, while the size of its deposits reached EGP132.6 bn by the end of June 2023.

NBK- Egypt ranked seventh with Assets-to-deposits coverage ratio of 127.65%, with total asset portfolio of about EGP114.8 bn, and total deposit portfolio of approximately EGP89.9 bn by the end of June 2023. Following in the ninth place was Egyptian Export Development Bank "Ebank" with 126.92% by the end of the first half of this year, with total assets amounting to EGP106.8 bn, and total deposits of EGP84.1 bn by the end of June 2023.

saib secured the tenth position with 125.40%, with total assets of EGP105.1 bn by the end of June 2023, and a total deposit portfolio of about EGP 83.8 bn by the end of the same period.

It's worth mentioning that all the values and coverage rates mentioned in the analysis above are based on separate financial statements announced by each bank by the end of June 2023.
