Suez Canal Bank Donates EGP 1 Mn to Abu El-Reesh Japanese Children's Hospital
First Bank
Suez Canal Bank donated EGP one mn to Abu El-Reesh Japanese Children's Hospital to contribute to the purchase of surgical machines using modern "Ozaki" technology. This makes the bank one of the pioneers supporting this technology, benefiting thousands of children patients for free.
This initiative reflects Suez Canal Bank's social responsibility and continuous commitment to supporting free healthcare services for children, especially in the field of heart surgeries. The Ozaki technique is an alternative to aortic valve replacement surgery, developed by Japanese heart surgeon Shigeyuki Ozaki, avoiding the use of artificial valves.
Egypt has become a distinguished center accredited by the Ozaki Foundation for the Middle East and North Africa, thanks to exceptional Egyptian heart surgeons at the Kasr Al Ainy Heart and Chest Surgery Department.
A delegation from Suez Canal Bank, led by Hussein Rifai, Chairman of the Board and Managing Director, toured the hospital on September 27, 2023, alongside bank leaders. They witnessed significant developments in the hospital and provided necessary support to purchase new surgical machines, aligning with the bank's commitment to supporting medical institutions, especially those specializing in pediatric care.
Rifai emphasized the bank's belief in the importance of collaborative efforts to contribute to various developments in Egyptian society, especially in child healthcare. Supporting the purchase of heart surgical machines using modern "Ozaki" technology helps treat approximately 500 children annually from various Egyptian governorates. Abu El-Reesh Hospital is the central hospital for pediatric surgeries in the Republic and actively participates in the presidential initiative to eliminate waiting lists.
These surgical machines represent a breakthrough in pediatric heart surgeries and are crucial for educational programs and the development of heart surgeries in Egypt. The Ozaki technique is particularly beneficial for women of childbearing age, elderly individuals, and children, as it eliminates significant risks associated with mandatory blood thinners when using artificial valves.
Abu El-Reesh Japanese Children's Specialized Hospital is the largest children's hospital in Egypt and the Middle East, founded in 1983 with grants from Japan. The hospital has 354 beds, including 121 intensive care beds and 35 nurseries.
It serves between 1500-2000 patients daily, totaling half a million patients annually. The hospital offers 17 specialized clinics, including ophthalmology, genetics, collagen, catheterization, cardiology, neurology, liver, general surgery, plastic surgery, urology, and ultrasound.
Suez Canal Bank has undertaken several impactful initiatives in pediatric healthcare, including supporting hospitals like Nassar Hospital by donating to equip a complete medical room and contributing to heart surgeries for children.
The bank also supported the 57357 Children's Cancer Hospital to treat various medical conditions, covering costs for treatment rooms, daily therapy units, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, laboratory tests, X-rays, appropriate medications, and medical supplies.
Overall, Suez Canal Bank aims to achieve Sustainable Development Goals to fulfill Egypt's Vision 2030. The bank prioritizes social responsibility, continuously adopting effective programs to serve the community, addressing essential needs in seven different areas, including health, education, social solidarity, supporting people with disabilities, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, providing a decent life, and creating a good living environment. The bank also focuses on supporting vulnerable groups, preserving the environment, and enhancing human capacities in society.
