EBRD Looks Forward to Contributing to the Suez Canal Projects

Mustafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, met this morning with Odile Renaud-Basso, the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, on the sidelines of his participation representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in the second day activities of the "Global Gateway" forum organized by the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador Badr Abdel-Aati, Egypt's Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union.
The Prime Minister highlighted the significant partnership between the Egyptian government and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in various important projects across different sectors. He emphasized the excellent partnership in the field of renewable energy and urged the bank president to expand cooperation in related projects.
He praised the existing cooperation between Egypt and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, especially in infrastructure projects and other developmental initiatives. The Prime Minister affirmed the government's commitment to supporting and empowering the private sector, reducing government investments in the economy, and creating a favorable legislative and regulatory environment for investments.
President Renaud-Basso mentioned discussions with the Minister of Electricity about increasing renewable energy capacities, including a joint project focused on green hydrogen. She acknowledged Egypt's ambitious plan for desalination projects and expressed the bank's interest in contributing to those projects in the economic zone of the Suez Canal, considering it a top investment priority for Egypt.
Additionally, she appreciated Egypt's efforts to de-escalate the situation in Gaza and facilitate aid delivery to the region.
