The Arab Banks Union, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Egypt and the Union of Banks of Egypt, is organizing the “Annual Forum for Heads of Risk Management Departments in Arab Banks for the year 2023” in its fifth edition. The event will take place from December 1-3, 2023, at the Sonesta St. George Hotel in Luxor, Arab Republic of Egypt.

Under the patronage of the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, Hassan Abdullah, the forum will host over 220 banking and regulatory leaders from 17 Arab and foreign countries.

Against the backdrop of global economic challenges stemming from geopolitical developments in Europe since early 2022, including military conflicts affecting global supply chains, the forum aims to address the significant impact on Arab banking. These challenges, coupled with climate change and rapid digital transformation worldwide, have led to insolvency in some major banks, increased banking risks, and a pervasive sense of uncertainty in global financial markets.

The forum will shed light on various issues, including updates from the Basel Committee, regulatory reforms in the post-crisis period and their impact on Arab banks, measuring credit risks, sustainability challenges of sovereign debts, lessons learned from the failure of some global banks, and the risks and opportunities associated with emerging technologies.

Prominent experts from Arab and international backgrounds, including representatives from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision – Bank for International Settlements/Switzerland, will contribute to the discussions. Luxor, known for its cultural heritage, is emphasized as a fitting location for the conference, aligning with its charm and global appeal.
