Egypt's banks, EGX off today in observance to Coptic Christmas
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced that banks operating in Egypt is closed on Sunday, 8 January 2023, on the occasion of the Coptic Christmas.
Banks will reopen on Monday, 9 January, according to an official statement.
In addition, trading on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) will be halted next Sunday to be resumed the next day, the EGX said in a separate statement.
The two decisions came following the Prime Minister’s announcement that 8 January will be a paid day-off for all employees at ministries, governmental facilities, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, the public enterprise sector, and the private sector in Egypt.
