HD Bank, HSBC and AlexBank top best banks in average return on assets during Q1-2025

First Bank's list of the most efficient banks in investing their assets «rate of return on average assets» during the first quarter of 2025 revealed that the Housing and Development Bank topped the list with a rate of 10.83%, thanks to achieving net profits of 4.82 billion pounds during the first quarter of 2025.

The list, which included 25 banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector for which the necessary financial data were made available during the period under analysis, showed that they all achieved positive rates of return on average assets, due to their success in achieving net profits at varying levels and none of these banks achieving losses during the first quarter of 2025.

The return on average assets measures the efficiency of banks in investing their assets with the aim of achieving net profits during the period under analysis, and the higher the return, the more this indicates the efficiency of the bank in investing its assets to achieve appropriate profit levels.

Returning to the list, HSBC Bank «HSBC» took second place with an average return on assets of 8.01%, after achieving net profits of 5.86 billion pounds during the first quarter of 2025.

The Bank of Alexandria came in third place, after the rate of return on its average assets reached 6.45%, due to its ability to achieve net profits worth 3.63 billion pounds during the first quarter of 2025.

Credit Agricole Bank – Egypt snatched fourth place with an average return on assets of 5.90%, after achieving net profits of EGP 1.87 billion during the first quarter of 2025.

The Commercial International Bank «CIB» won fifth place, after the rate of return on its average assets reached 5.38%, due to its ability to achieve net profits worth 16.60 billion pounds during the first quarter of 2025.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank – Egypt «ADIB» ranked sixth with an average return on assets of 4.34%, after achieving net profits of EGP 2.94 billion during the first quarter of 2025.

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank – Egypt «ADCB» came in seventh place, with a rate of return on its average assets of 4.34%, after its net profits reached 1.51 billion pounds during the first quarter of 2025.

National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt «NBK-Egypt» dominated eighth place with an average return on assets of 4.06%, after achieving net profits of EGP 2.02 billion during the first quarter of 2025.

First Abu Dhabi Bank – Egypt «FABMISR» came in ninth place, after the rate of return on its average assets reached 3.53%, due to its ability to achieve net profits worth 3.85 billion pounds during the first quarter of 2025.

As for tenth place, it went to United Bank with a rate of return on average assets of 3.49%, after it was able to achieve net profits worth 740.24 million pounds during the first quarter of 2025.

It is worth noting that all values used to calculate average asset rates of return according to the independent financial statements announced for each bank at the end of March 2025 were weighted on an annual basis.
