CIB, AAIB and QNB Egypt top private sector banks in strengthening retail deposit portfolio in last 3 years

First Bank index of the private sector banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector that have strengthened individuals' deposit portfolios for the last 3 years revealed that the Commercial International Bank - Egypt «CIB» topped the list, as its portfolio jumped by EGP 311.08 billion over the last 3 years, reaching EGP 537.33 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 226.24 billion by the end of 2021.

The «First Bank» Index for Enhancing Individual Deposits monitored the values of the increase in the total portfolios of individual deposits in 21 private banks operating in the Egyptian banking system for which financial data were available for the last 3 years (specifically from the end of 2021, until the end of 2024).

The index showed that all the banks under analysis achieved significant increases in the size of their individual deposit portfolios in the last 3 years. It is worth noting that the banks «ABC» and «FABMISR» completed acquisitions during this period, which affected their increase values.

Returning to the list, the Arab African International Bank took second place, as its individual deposit portfolio jumped by EGP 218.42 billion over the past 3 years, recording EGP 274.79 billion at the end of 2024, compared to EGP 56.37 billion at the end of 2021.

Third came Qatar National Bank «QNB» Egypt, with an increase of EGP 109.16 billion over the past 3 years, as its portfolio of individual deposits recorded EGP 234.29 billion at the end of 2024, compared to EGP 125.13 billion at the end of 2021.

Faisal Islamic Bank ranked fourth, after its individual deposit portfolio increased by EGP 66.22 billion over the past three years, reaching EGP 172.84 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 106.62 billion by the end of 2021.

HSBC Bank «HSBC» came in fifth place, after its individual deposit portfolio recorded EGP 114.73 billion at the end of 2024, compared to EGP 57.01 billion at the end of 2021, an increase of EGP 57.72 billion in the last 3 years.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank «ADIB-Egypt» came in sixth place, with an increase value of EGP 39.48 billion over the past 3 years, after its individual deposit portfolio reached EGP 86.80 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 47.32 billion by the end of 2021.

The Bank of Alexandria snatched seventh place, as its individual deposit portfolio reached about 115.97 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 79.48 billion pounds at the end of 2021, with an increase value of 36.49 billion pounds during the last 3 years.

The National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt «NBK-Egypt» dominated eighth place, as its portfolio of individual deposits recorded 65.80 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 36.87 billion pounds at the end of 2021, with an increase value of 28.94 billion pounds in the last 3 years.

Al Baraka Bank came in ninth place, with an increase value of about 27.64 billion pounds during the last three years, recording 62.69 billion pounds by the end of 2024, compared to 35.04 billion pounds by the end of 2021.

As for tenth place, it went to First Abu Dhabi Bank «FABMISR», after its portfolio of individual deposits amounted to 24.01 billion pounds in the last 3 years, recording 57.25 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 33.24 billion pounds at the end of 2021.

It is worth noting that private sector banks are banks whose total shareholding exceeds 50%, according to data from the Egyptian Ministry of Public Business Sector.
