CIB, FABMISR and QNB Egypt top private sector banks in strengthening direct loans portfolios in last 3 years

First Bank index of the private sector banks operating in the Egyptian banking sector that have strengthened direct financing portfolios for companies in the last 3 years revealed that the Commercial International Bank-Egypt «CIB» topped the list, as its portfolio jumped by EGP 92.57 billion over the past 3 years, reaching EGP 142.33 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 49.76 billion by the end of 2021.

The «First Bank» index for enhancing direct financing for companies monitored the increase values in the total direct loan portfolios of 20 private banks operating in the Egyptian banking system for which financial data were available for the last 3 years (specifically from the end of 2021, until the end of 2024).

The index showed that all the banks under analysis achieved significant increases in the size of their direct financing portfolios for companies in the last 3 years. It is worth noting that the banks «ABC» and «FABMISR» completed acquisitions during this period, which affected their increase values.

Returning to the list, First Abu Dhabi Bank-Egypt «FABMISR» took second place, as its direct corporate loan portfolio rose by EGP 58.18 billion over the past 3 years, to EGP 62.59 billion at the end of 2024, compared to EGP 4.41 billion at the end of 2021.

Qatar National Bank «QNB» Egypt ranked third, after its portfolio of direct loans to companies increased by 51.64 billion pounds in the last 3 years, recording 108.96 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 57.32 billion pounds at the end of 2021.

The National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt «NBK-Egypt» took fourth place, with an increase value of about 47.02 billion pounds during the last 3 years, after its direct corporate loan portfolio recorded 76.17 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 29.14 billion pounds at the end of 2021.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank «ADIB-Egypt» came in fifth place, after its direct financing portfolio reached about EGP 59.54 billion by the end of 2024, compared to EGP 27.73 billion by the end of 2021, an increase of EGP 31.81 billion in the last 3 years.

Kuwait Finance House Bank - Egypt snatched sixth place, with an increase value of 27.87 billion pounds during the last 3 years, after its direct financing portfolio amounted to about 55.51 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 27.63 billion pounds at the end of 2021.

Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait-Egypt «ABK-Egypt» came in seventh place, after its portfolio of direct loans recorded EGP 34.42 billion at the end of 2024, compared to EGP 11.19 billion at the end of 2021, an increase of about EGP 23.23 billion over the past 3 years.

Al Baraka Bank came in eighth place, after its direct corporate financing portfolio increased by about 22.06 billion pounds during the last 3 years, recording 40.70 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 18.64 billion pounds at the end of 2021.

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank-Egypt «ADCB» came in ninth place, as its direct corporate loan portfolio increased by about EGP 20.34 billion in the last 3 years, after recording EGP 28.54 billion at the end of 2024, compared to EGP 8.21 billion at the end of 2021.

As for tenth place, it went to the Arab Banking Corporation «ABC» Bank, after its direct corporate loan portfolio reached 21.89 billion pounds at the end of 2024, compared to 2.47 billion pounds at the end of 2021, with an increase value of 19.42 billion pounds in the last 3 years.

It is worth noting that private sector banks are banks whose total contribution percentage exceeds 50%, according to data from the Egyptian Ministry of Public Business Sector.
