EGP index increased against a basket of major currencies to 39.943 points at today's trading

The Egyptian Pound Index recorded a decline against major currencies at the close of trading on Monday, January 12, 2026, as the index fell to 39.943 points by the end of today’s session, compared to 39.959 points at the close of trading on Sunday.

The decline in the Egyptian Pound Index was driven by its depreciation against the British pound sterling and the euro, while it appreciated against the US dollar, the Japanese yen, the UAE dirham, the Saudi riyal, and the Chinese yuan at the close of today’s trading. The pound recorded its strongest gain against the UAE dirham, while its sharpest decline was against the British pound sterling.

In this context, the average selling price of the euro increased from EGP 54.99 to EGP 55.16 by the close of today’s trading, while the average buying price rose from EGP 54.86 to EGP 55.04 at the end of the session.

Meanwhile, the average selling price of the British pound sterling rose from EGP 63.34 to EGP 63.59 by the close of today’s trading, and the average buying price increased from EGP 63.17 to EGP 63.44 at the end of the session.

As for the Japanese yen, the average selling price declined from EGP 29.92 to EGP 29.912 by the close of today’s trading, while the average buying price fell from EGP 29.86 to EGP 29.8411 at the end of the session.

The average selling price of the UAE dirham also declined from EGP 12.86 to EGP 12.85 by the close of today’s trading, while the average buying price in the local market fell from EGP 12.83 to EGP 12.82 at the end of the session.

In addition, the average selling price of the Saudi riyal decreased from EGP 12.59 to EGP 12.58 by the close of today’s trading, while the average buying price declined from EGP 12.57 to EGP 12.56 at the end of the session.

Meanwhile, the average selling price of the Chinese yuan remained unchanged at EGP 6.77 by the close of today’s trading, while the average buying price also stabilized at EGP 6.755 at the end of the session.
