A Decline in Retail Deposits Recorded by One Bank During the First Nine Months
The First Bank list of the fastest-growing banks in retail deposits during the first nine months of 2025 revealed that Emirates NBD Egypt topped the ranking, after its retail deposits portfolio rose by approximately 49.5% during the first nine months of 2025, reaching EGP 68.91 billion by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 46.10 billion at the end of 2024.
Suez Canal Bank ranked second, as its retail deposits portfolio increased by about 48.6% during the first nine months of 2025, recording EGP 31.39 billion by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 21.13 billion at the end of 2024.
Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank-Egypt «ADIB-Egypt» secured third place, with its retail deposits portfolio surging by around 43% during the first nine months of 2025, reaching EGP 124.15 billion by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 86.80 billion at the end of 2024.
The First Bank list monitored total retail deposits at 27 banks operating within the Egyptian banking sector for which financial data were available as of the end of September 2025. The data showed that 26 banks achieved positive growth rates in their total retail deposits during the first nine months of 2025, while one bank recorded a slight decline over the same period.
The ranking revealed a striking dominance of the private sector, as private banks occupied all top ten positions, with a complete absence of public-sector banks from the leading ranks. The private banks included: Emirates NBD, Suez Canal Bank, ADIB, BANK NXT, saib, Kuwait Finance House-Egypt, Al Ahli Kuwaiti-Egypt, Al Baraka Bank, National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt, and FABMISR.
With regard to banks listed on the Egyptian Exchange, they secured four positions among the top ten fastest-growing banks, namely: Suez Canal Bank, ADIB, saib, and Al Baraka Bank.
The list also highlighted the strong presence of Arab banking groups operating in the Egyptian market, as they captured seven positions among the top ten banks. These included: Emirates NBD, ADIB, Kuwait Finance House-Egypt, Al Ahli Kuwaiti-Egypt, Al Baraka Bank, National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt, and FABMISR.
At the level of Islamic banks, their presence in the Egyptian banking sector continued to strengthen, with three banks successfully joining the list of the top ten fastest-growing banks, namely: ADIB, Kuwait Finance House-Egypt, and Al Baraka Bank.
In contrast, one bank recorded a slight decline in its retail deposits portfolio. Egyptian Gulf Bank «EGBANK» saw its retail deposits decrease by approximately 0.29% during the first nine months of 2025, reaching EGP 24.54 billion by the end of September 2025, compared with EGP 24.61 billion at the end of 2024.
It is worth noting that all values and growth rates mentioned in the above analysis are based on the standalone financial statements announced by each bank as of the end of September 2025.
